This has been such a long and tedious process for me. I had to have referrals for each and everything. I met primary dr march 29th 2014, had to see a nut for 2 months. Then go to weight watchers and lose weight couldn't miss 1 week for 6 months straight w/o missing one week or have to start over. Have monthly weigh in with dr for 6 months. Then they send off for referral for surgery 1 month process. Go to seminar then schedule consultation with bariatric dr another month out. Now im doing all my preop which is cardiologist, physiologist, gi, xrays, primary dr clearances. Still have no surgery date set. A year in the works. So sorry i get jealous when i hear how easy it is for some of you guys

I was approved 2 days after it was submitted. Insurance companies understand now, I think, that it really is a life saver, and a cost savings for them.....down the road.

Wow. These are fast turn around times. I had my info class in October but had to wait until Jan 2 for my first round of appts (new insurance). It took two months to get through all the testing and appts and three weeks of compliance with my new a-pap. Two more weeks for approval with insurance. Next week I have three more appts and will be picking the surgery date at that time. Lastly I have a pre/post dietitian education on the 30th of this month and hoping to be sleeved mid April.

At times I have wished that time would pass faster. In the end though, I am actually glad I have had the time to process the life changes that I need to make. I have used this time to ease into some of the them ahead of surgery.

Mine was pretty easy too! I had my consultation, and once I scheduled my endoscopy they were able to schedule my surgery date (June 15th). I'm a teacher so I wanted to wait until school was out!

My insurance BCBS (MESSA plan (teachers insurance) is really good and the billing specialist said they were "the best payer" she deals with. I don't need a psychological eval either since I have no prior mental health issues or substance abuse. Now I just have to do all the pre-surgical tests and meet with my PCP, attend a seminar and I am good to go. Good luck to you!

I want to suggest something and hope it will be taken as a helpful suggestion. Though its none of my business, and with full respect for you and your personal motivations, I wonder if you might want to change your screen nam. I suggest just because I believe that a brain locks on to thoughts, and therefore, with "fat" in your name, might create an unconscious hold.

I know - a little new agey - and please take it for whatever its worth to you. (And I fully recognize that my own screen name is dorky but it relates to camping and I've used it since forever.) I love InItToWinIt and LosingIt and NewMe, SlimMe, HealthyMe, etc.

Just a little thought and I hope you will not be offended.

My inital appointment was 1/22/15. My insurance only required Psych and Nutriton. My surgeron required a couple other things.

All appointments were completed by 2/5/15 and I scheduled my Surgery on 2/6/15. My surgery is 3/20/15- less than two months after my inital appointment. IT was very easy. My Surgeon said other than self pay- I am the fastest case he has ever had.

I absolutely understand I don't take it offensively ! Lol there is a motivate behind the madness. When I am ready I think I'll change it but since I'm still pre op I feel like I need to remember why I'm starting this. I was 200 lbs at 18 went up to 385 by my age now which is 26. My mom died when I was 18 and I just gained like crazy and I think because I was on my own right out of high school with everything no one wanted to tell me. I felt like no one would hold me accountable for my weight gain when they should of. So I feel like the other fat person that you say it's okay because of this or you have a pretty face so it doesn't matter. when in reality it really did matter and I need to hold myself accountable. There is a motivation in there lol but I do appreciate the suggestion and am not offended at all.

I met with my surgeon for the first time before even mentioning it to my primary. We talked about my history which surgery we should do etc. Than I met with the billing lady and she goes June 10th? I was like oh for my next appointment ? No your surgery date. ... I know every insurance varies but now I'm just nervous that was way too easy it actually scared me lol. She says the only requirements from my insurance is a psychology and nutrition consultant . I'm just curious if any one Had a similar experience.

Everything moved quite quickly for me as well. I had my first consultation with the surgeon on 3/26/15 and then I had my surgery on 4/29/15. They had several requirements I had to meet beforehand, psych eval, 6 months nutritional diet, 5yrs weight history... but I was able to get all my documents in order as quickly as possible. It's normal to think it may be odd but depending what your insurance and the Dr requires can make a difference.

Good luck with everything! It is a challenge and going to be a long journey ahead. Not being able to eat foods, even a little is difficult, but in time, it will get easier. food isn't going anywhere lol

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
