Stomach spasms with tummy flu

Recommended Posts

Im 5 months post surgery. I've had a tummy bug for the last 4 days. Dizziness, Nausea and vomiting. Then randomly I'll be starving so I'll force myself to eat. Then I get light stomach spasms, nausea, and light vomiting. Today I wake up with a bad headache but nausea is better so I eat. Now the nausea is back and the spasms are horrendous. Like they were right after surgery. Do I worry this is something wrong with my sleeve or is it just that my sleeve is irritated from throwing up??

Do you have a fever? If so, then call your doctor right away. Can you keep liquids down? If no, then also call your doctor as dehydration can be an issue. If this is a stomach bug you should start to feel better very soon. Try some chicken broth when you are hungry.

All that being said, since it is already Friday afternoon, I would recommend calling your doctor now instead of waiting for the weekend. Hope you feel better soon.

I did not have a fever, but yesterday i DID. I can for the most part keep fuilds down. I was in my infusion when this severe spasms came on. They almost cancled it but instead gave me zofran (for nausea) and ranitidine (for gastritis). It ended up working... so long as i didn't eat or drink anything. I continued to use both over the weekend and as long as i kept up on them i was fine. This morning however i took them, and had the spasms AGAIN! My pcp is out till thursday but i have an apt with her then. Im waiting till my surgeons office opens now to call and ask them about it. I have a feeling they will say its gastritis causing esophageal spasms and really what can be done for that??

Pcp says it's esophageal spasms with possible gallbladder involvement. She increased my omeprozole for the constant spasms (the ones I get every time I eat or drink) and gave me nitroglycerin for the bad spasms (the ones that last hours and make me cry). Had no idea they give heart attack meds for the tummy! She also said to let her know what my surgeon said. I see him tomorrow.

My dr is thinking I may have that in addition to the esophageal spasms. She already did an ultrasound that didn't show stones but she says that sometimes there are stones or sludge that don't show on an ultrasound.

I'll keep updating as I learn more

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
