Anyone lose 150+ pounds with the sleeve?

Recommended Posts

I'm going through the pre classes right now and am thinking about getting the sleeve. I have 180+ pounds to lose. Is that possible with the sleeve? Just wanted to hear any success stories.

Thanks! :)

According to one of the Drs I follow up with, he says my goal weight is 175, and I should get there in August. I started this journey at 345 and 324 was my surgery weight from 9/29. So, I guess it is possible, but I don't think August is my month for reaching that goal. I'm at 268 today.

It all depends on you. The sleeve is only a tool, how you use it determines your success. My highest weight was, at least, 275, I have maintained 115 =/- 3lbs for about 2 years

I'm 2 years out and have successfully kept off 170lbs. I'd lost 130 in 10 months and lost another 40 lbs 6 months later.

I just posted my 2 year Surgerversary videos - hope they can help.

Of course it is possible. The sleeve will help, but it is still up to you. I have lost 195 pounds so far, but the first 150 were before I had surgery. I had the sleeve done to help push me to my final goal and keep the weight off. Just remember, it is not a magic pill. It is a very helpful tool, but the results will vary depending on how well you follow your plan.

Sure its possible, if you follow the plan. I have lost over 110 lbs in the first 7 months. Techinally, I am below the 100 pound loss goal that was discussed at the surgeons office. But I changed that goal, and want to drop 10 more, and the doctor was fine with that.

It is absolutely possible. I've lost 146 pounds to date. Stay disciplined, it is a lifestyle change. Good luck!

Thanks for all the wonderful advice! I guess I'm most worried about having a lot of lose skin left on my body. I am 49 years old. I've heard the older you are the harder it is for your skin to bounce back.

I am 50, and I would much rather deal with the loose skin than the fat and all the discomfort, pain and limitations that came with it. My insurance did pay for a panni and TT. Thighs, arms and boobs still saggy, but doesn't bother me much as it's fairly easy to conceal with clothing

I've lost about 140 with the sleeve, or around 95% of my excess weight, depending on end goal. I think it is possible to lose massive amounts. I'd like to lose another 10, but can't seem to get it off. Sometimes I think if had RNY I might be able to get it off easier, but there is no way to know. Either way, I'm thrilled, and I'm not sad I chose the sleeve.

On the pamphlets in my Dr.'s office it said that ppl who get the sleeve lose an average of 66% of their total lbs they need to lose. That doesn't mean u can't lose more, it's just an average. I easily have 200 lbs to lose and my doctor wants me to lose 60lbs before surgery and even with that's loss I could still stand to lose a good 130 on top of that.

133 lost and could easily continue but my top half has become a little gaunt and the bottom half will stay flabby even with additional weight loss so I am staying put for the sake of the clothing I finally broke down and bought.

150 pounds is absolutely not beyond your reach. Just stay the course - the sleeve doesn't give up on you. Sometimes we give up on ourselves.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
