Plastic surgery over 65: Any one?

Recommended Posts

At 66, I am not very good at following blogs and I know I’m pretty old for weight loss surgery. That said, I find that in anticipating surgery and weight loss I am worried that I will look even worse with sagging skin than with the fat. I am also concerned that plastic surgeons will not be willing to do these procedures on someone my age with such poor skin turgor due to aging.

Has anyone had weight loss surgery over 65? What has been your experience with the way your skin looks after weight loss? Has anyone had plastic surgery at this age?

Well I'm 60 and going in march for some tune ups on the tummy and breasts. My doc had no issue with age. See what your doc says.

I bet you'll be pleasantly surprised????

Julie,

Thanks very much for the encouragement. I have an appointment with the surgeon next week and I’ll ask her to put me in touch with one of the plastic surgeons. Hearing from you, I realize I’ve been worrying about this but never really looked into it. As of now, looks like I can’t have the surgery until June because I need to document 6 consecutive months of dr visits for Medicare. Amazing, since I can document 33 years of struggle.

Thanks again, candy

hi

i have issues about both your above statements

many people have WLS in their 60's

we are initially getting surgery to improve our health

but lets be real, we want our appearance to improve too

if you don't have plastics - losing the weight can't help but make you look better

good luck

kathy

@@csg my surgeon has operated on people your age, although I do not know any of those patients personally. You may want to check on RealSelf, a plastic surgery community. I know there was one woman I corresponded with there who was in her sixties and got a Tummy Tuck.

I'm 61 and have pretty much had the works done...still planning one more surgery this summer...I may be in my 60's but my body sure doesn't look it. Check out Dr. Peter Fisher, from San Antonio. On his website he shows a woman who is 65 who also had a lower body lift and arm lift...she looks great.

@@AZDee woman, I love you, 61 no way, you give me hope for myself! I had young parents. Mom 18 and Dad 20 when I was born. But they aged prematurely and so I've always had this idea that 60 is so old. Being 51 myself it scares me that their path is my future. I love when I meet people like you who are vital and beautiful and young. Hugs!

I would think when someone is over 60, that's when you need it the most...and not just from WLS...

I could use a little touch up on my face....

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
