Have questions about my surgery Thursday

Recommended Posts

My surgeons office told me to wash with antibacterial soap the night before surgery. Does anyone know if it is okay if it is scented too? Second, just supposed to be in the hospital for one night. Should I bring anything? Last question, My surgeon is also going to prepare my hiatal hernia. Do you think their is going to be more pain? Okay, one more question sorry. Can you tell me your experiences when you first woke up in recovery and your first few days home? Thank you all so much! :D

hi there! Interesting request about the soap but scented should be fine. I would recommend chapstick, loose pants, a good book and a cell phone charger if you have a phone. I didn't experience more pain as a result of my hernia repair and sleeving. In recovery, you feel loopy and stoned. If you are in pain make sure they give you meds. No need to suffer or tough it out. First few days/weeks are tough. I'm not going to sugar coat it. Small sips, don't rush to get to purees, rest. Be your own patient advocate - if something is feeling weird or making you worry, talk to your surgeon. This is a life long journey and the discomfort will get better. You can do this.

Thank you so much. Also thank you for not sugar coating it. The truth is always better. Those were all great things to bring. I am so happy to hear that you did not have more pain with hiatal hernia repair. It does make me feel less scared about that. I pray that it will be the same for me. Thank you so much!

I brought so much to the hospital and it was a waste. If you're not walking around you'll be sleeping and resting. Chapstick and phone charger was the only thing I used. Everything else is available at the hospital. And comfy clothes to wear home. No bra or pants. I wore a long muumuu type dress.

Thank you. I was thinking about a long night gown, so thank you. I definitely was not going to wear a bra. Thank you again

I bought a large pair of panties, a toothbrush, my iPad, iPhone & charger. They gave me antibactierial soap at pre-admission and told me to wash with it. I didn't have a hernia repair. I woke up feeling fine. I never need any pain meds once I woke up, walked in recovery. I had no real pain, just some soreness. No nausea either. They gave me ice chips to suck on and the next day they brought me Prosource no carb liquid Protein, vegetable broth, Jello (I didn't eat that) and Decaf tea. I was also given a pitcher of Water and a small bucket of ice.

Thank you so much everyone has had wonderful suggestions! A lot I never thought of. The large pair of panties is great! I I never thought of that. I am so happy that you really had no pain. Just soreness. I pray that is the same for me.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
