January Sleevers ❄️

Recommended Posts

I've lost 40 lbs total since start of pre op. 15 on the pre-op diet then another 25 since surgery on 1/7. I have trouble getting in all my Protein & fluids. Its not a physical thing, I've done amazingly well since surgery. I do have a pretty tiny sleeve as evidenced by how little actual food I can eat, my problem is I'm literally too busy to stay on top of it all throughout the day. I'm in my final semester of RN school & I work too so I find myself staying so busy I forget to sip my fluids. Also I have no time for exercise, not even walking. I get up, get kids to school, go to class, go to work, fix dinner, bathe youngest & help her with her homework, put her to bed then do my own homework til midnight or later then get up at 6 & start all over again. I know these are the reasons for the stalls I've had but its unavoidable for now. Hopefully I'll get the hang of it soon. I have no regrets though. Still the best thing I've ever done for myself. :)

I feel like the last three days I can eat quite a bit and that is kinda scary not like a full meal or anything but def more then what I was thinking I should. i'm going to take a step back and try to just to liquids since I'm just on solids for the first time the past two days. Maybe that is my problem too I'm in taking to much even though I have not even reached 600 in my caloric intake. I don't know plus i was only walking 2 miles a day I think i will go to 5. If I don't see a pound drop soon I'm going to pull my hair out!

@VeronicaPage I feel the exact same way. I feel so paranoid because I feel like I'm eating more than one should after the surgery, no meals but too many bites. It's scary! I'm also starting my liquid diet again tomorrow. Let's hope that this restart helps ease our nerves!

@@JenniferO2188 Let me know how this goes for you. I'm unhappy for us in that aspect but I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one with this struggle of feeling like I'm in taking to much food! Wish you luck and I'm here all the time so I look forward to seeing if it helps you out to get back to the general basics!

I think its complicated a little in these early days by the fact our drs are watching us and we know they have expectations. I'm a at stall too and its bugging but I'm going to keep doing what I know im supposed to be doing and not worry about the Dr. I did take measurements and they are changing. @@Veronica Page if you haven't already, do take measurements. I will bet they are chancing.

1 month post op and since surgery I have lost 10 lbs! Yep, 10 lbs! I am happy with that! I had a lower BMI to start so I expected a lower weightloss than others. My weightloss is slow and that's ok. It is what it is! Hopefully the slow weightloss will decrease loose skin! Eating soft foods now. I am having difficulty knowing when I am full still. It hits me all of the sudden I am fine the next bite I am "uncomfortably" full! I will keep working on it. I do measure out my food. I can only eat about 1/4 cup of food always eat my Protein first. I am dealing with terrible Constipation however started Miralax and that has helped things. I definitely need to increase my fluids! I feel like I am constantly eating (because you have to chew, chew, chew and that time) that there is no time to drink! I will have to just start sipping all day! I still have a shake for lunch or Breakfast whichever. I am very happy with my desicion to do this! I don't stress over the scale anymore. I know my sleeve is working, I am eating a 1/4 cup of food or less at a meal, I am not hungry, and my body is losing just slowly! I am taking measurements Saturday to see where I am at! I keep tightening up my belt every few days and my clothes are definently getting baggy! I will continue to do what I do. Starting turbo jam today! That should kick the weightloss up! ????

I'm finding it harder to get the fluids in now that I'm eating little meals. But you can't drink with. That's when I'm thirstiest. Learning learning.

I should start on soft foods next week. What has everyone found to be the best foods to start with?

@@Swampdoggie I've taken measurements since I started my weight loss and do so every Monday. I would not be concerned about the stall if I was seeing some changes in that department too, but I haven't seen a change in that area either. That is why I'm choosing to go back to the basics and see if maybe I'm not getting enough Protein in or I'm simply eating to much. When I see a change in either I will be happier with my situation. My expectations for my weight loss are realistic but when you start at so much heavier the weight loss should come a lot easier and it isn't, its note for concern.

Right. That is a bummer and then some. When you're eating 600 calories a day and nothing is happening is is INCREDIBLY aggravating, without a doubt. Did you talk to your NUT about meds that might have an adverse effect?

There are also some who'd say to add more fat. Now that I can eat soft food I have added green olives and avocado and I saw some change today.

I KNOW it will get better. Its getting thru to the better that's so tough. Sending good energy your way.

Almost 6 weeks out and only down 13 pounds. Yes, very frustrating when eating less than 800 calories a day. And I love when people say, "Maybe you aren't eating enough calories." I can't!!! There are nights when I have to get another Protein Shake to get more than 500 calories for the day.

I know, I know...13 pounds is great! But not exactly where I set my expectations. My6 week post op is Monday and I hope he can reassure me that I'm on the right track, or give me ideas on what could make this better.

I don't take any meds and my nut is linked to myfitnesspal and looks at my food everyday and is satisfied with my food choices although I prob only take in about 500 cal a day. I try to eat more but after her seeing my barium vid can see why i don't in take to much more. Today I almost felt like I was going to be sick cause I made a roasted chicken and guess I ate just a lil more then I should felt like food was stuck in my throat. Soooo agonizing....I wanted to make myself throw up to get that feeling to go away.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
