I am really pushing it.

I had surgery on Dec. 2. " nothing more that 10 lbs " as far as lifting goes. I was doing great with that till Monday. That's when my help stopped with my 2 and 3 year old. I have been picking my 2 year old daughter up who is 30 lbs, only when its unavoidable. My two week follow up is tomorrow and my surgeon is gonna kill me.

I just carried my daughter inside from the car, she fell asleep.

It's hard to hold tight to my restrictions in times like that.

I'm aware of the damage it can cause and the reasons why the restrictions are the way they are. But, Ug what am I gonna do?

This is your health, be careful.

If you must pickup or carry, do it in a way that you move the weight onto your body and support it against you. Not leaning over and lifting with your muscles. Same with putting something down. Just use your body for support and avoid using muscles. You have alot of holes and internal stitches that can rip. Hindsight will be painful -_-

How are you feeling? I was doing well so at my 2 week f/u my doc lifted the weight restriction as long as I used common sense.

I carried a 70 pound suitcase 5 days after surgery, because it was either move it myself or leave it stuck in my car. You just need to lift with your legs and keep your core muscles tight. At two weeks out, you're unlikely to injure yourself carrying a 30 pound child (as long as he or she is not wiggling around). A few times when there is a neccessity won't hurt you. Good luck with your new sleeve!

It doesn't really hurt, but I do feel discomfort at my incision sites. Since I started holding my children, I haven't moved my bowels either. Coincidence? I've been going everyday up till then

I have a 2 yo. who weighs 30 lbs.

I had help for the first 2 weeks and didn't lift her at all. After 2 weeks, I had to lift her some, just like you said. It's basically pretty avoidable, but sometimes you just have to pick them up. Doctor said after 2 weeks was ok but to MINIMIZE it. (emphasis his)

I did, I'm ok. After 3 weeks I was totally cleared for toddler lifting. Just keep it as minimal as possible and get help when you can. Hang in there, and check with your doctor to make sure (s)he's okay with it.

Good luck.

My surgeon won't lift the ten pound restriction until 6 weeks post op.. It's frustrating but doable.. My wife picks up the slack with the garbage and groceries.. I just get tired of having others do everything for me..

I also have a 30+ 2yr old and when I got out of the hospital I was at my mom's. ..but my son was very clingy...but luckily he climbed most of the way...I'm about 3 weeks out and I pick him up very little and when I do I left with my legs. It's hard having toddlers at this stage. .heck it's hard period lol

I was in the same situation as mnmlst. I had help for the first 2 weeks then I was on my own with my 11 month old daughter. My husband is military and went on a field op for 2 weeks. You just have to be very cognizant of finding alternatives to not lifting. We put my daugther's crib mattress in on the floor next to our bed so I wouldn't have to lift her in and out of the crib. I fed her sitting on the floor so I didn't have to use the high chair. I held her hands while she climbed up and down the stairs. Anything I could do to not lift her. That said, there were times I had to lift her and I did pay the price. I was sore and in pain on those days I did too much. Thankfully nothing more serious. Just take your time and use your legs if you have to lift, but avoid it as much as you can. Good luck!!

Thanks ladies for the tips :)

They all helped a lot.

I saw my surgeon last week and didn't say anything g about lifting, but I am cleared to go back to work on January 2. I am super stoked about that.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
