Just started Liquid Diet before surgery

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I'm looking forward to learning tips and tricks to surviving this liquid diet. I started a week early just in case I might run into problems. I don't go into surgery until December 30th but I want to play it safe and shrink my liver. This liquid diet is leaving me pretty irritated and hungry. This is my second day and I'm going stir crazy. I figured if I can do this until my surgery I can make it the rest of the way. Anyone else feel like starting the liver shrinking diet is the hardest?

YESSSSS!! It's challenging. I bought un flavored Protein and add it to the broth. Really helps! Tad of lemon in my Water helps me drink it easier. And just stay BUSY. window shop for "Someday clothes." I find if I'm idle I just want to snack and feel annoyed and down.

I am on day 2 and the sweet Protein Shakes make me gag. I have been using GENEPRO unflavored Protein in chicken broth, blend it with the magic bullet and heat it in the wave.

Yes, the sweet shakes are killing me. I'm actually eating less because the sweetness is a deterrent. Does anyone know if there are 1-3g carb shakes that are savory instead of sweet?

My surgeon did not ask me to do it except for 1 day prior to surgery. I guess if I had to do it for 1-2 weeks before surgery, and knew I would have to do it for 10-14 days after, I might have dropped the plan to do surgery.

I haven't seen "savory" shakes yet. Keep you posted if I do! The broth is actually gagging me today ( with the unflavored Protein powder.) so I'm doing coffee with Protein Powder for Breakfast, greens and protein lunch and shake for dinner. Lotsa Water too!

I was able to eat things like sugar free Jello, sugar free pudding, fat free yogurt and even non starchy green and white veggies. The veggies were a life saver!!! My surgery is tomorrow so I am going to try and stay on strictly liquids - not thinking it's going to be easy. Have set to drink 5 Protein Shakes to get my Protein and have broth, sugar free koolaid as well as tomatoe and v8 juice handy.

I started my liquid diet on Friday..... The last day of school before the holidays and I (an electives teacher) was asked to help a building that was having a huge lunch feast for the students! The smells were amazing but surprisingly I did not get hungry, I had my Tomato broth, tea and Water. It was hard saying no when offered yummy food constantly specially during the holidays!

This is what I can have to eat for the three days before surgery:

I'm starving right now! I started (on my own initiative) pre-op of two Protein shakes per day plus one low-carb sensible meal. I'm so hungry!!! Surgery is 12/31/14. Pre-op apt is 12/24/14.

I started last Friday so I'm day five and its waaaaay better. First three days I felt starving and rumbling tummy, yesterday I felt full after my one small meal. And this morning I woke up without wanting it eat my pillow!! Just keep surgery and your goals always in front of you! It really does help. I'm losing 1lb a day at least so that's encouraging too!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
