Not Given A Pre Op Diet... Should I be worried?

Hello everyone... I'm new to the site and I see almost everyone talking about a pre op diet. My surgery date is Dec 23rd. Insurance just approved it earlier today. My dr only wants me NOT to eat the night before. Should I be worried?

Not at all. Not every doctor requires a pre-op diet. Mine didn't. He simply suggested cutting back on the amount of calories I was eating in the weeks leading up to my surgery and of course to be NPO the night before.

You trust your surgeon to cut you open, remove most of a major organ, sew you back up and get you safely back on your feet, right? Put some of that trust in her to know what her patients need in terms of pre-op prep! ^_^

I didn't have a pre-op diet to follow either really. My surgeon just wanted me to lose at least 10 pounds in my 6 months of medically supervised diet visits that insurance required. Then, just like you, no food after a certain time the night before surgery.

Don't be worried, do the "Happy dance" instead. The pre-op diet was sooooo much harder for me than anything I went through post-op. B)

Count your blessings that you dodged a bullet on this one. My guess is that he doesn't think that your liver is going to be in the way and doesn't need to be shrunk.
