Why do the surgery if you dont want to abide by the rules.

I got my sleeve because i over indulge. im 5"7 and 235lbs im 27and i dont want to wake up and be 300lbs . i had my surgery because i needed a tool to help me control my calorie intake. i had my sleeve done because i wanted it. it was covered by my insurance and i didnt have to jump through hoops to get it done . if i was capable of following rules i wouldnt have failed the previous diets exercise programs ive been on since grade school. I dont care how u feel about me wanting to chew one slice of supreme pizza from pizza hut. my only question was ... is this weird? I believe the rules are different for every person because Moderation is the key!

Funny how some people turned to blatant nastiness. Also funny how people think some of us are "diagnosing" another person. I don't recall doing that. I am however a therapist, and I have in fact studied eating disorders, and I do in fact know that it could point to a POSSIBLE (my exact word) eating disorder. If you don't want opinions, don't ask for them. And, as for me, I'm not an "EX FATTY" yet, but I'm really glad you feel comfortable shaming other people that you are just like (or used to be). I'm sure it's great being you. Name calling is something I'll leave to the middle schoolers. Have a beautiful day, I know I will - in spite of some that ooze negativity.

how am i shaming anyone for taking up for my slef.... perhaps once you have your procedure you will understand the mental. aspect of wanting to do something physically familiar . if you notice i did nothing. but say thank you to the people who said i may have an issue and gave their medical diagnosis. ... i welcome your opinions. ... just not anyone questioning my decision! im sure there are people in your personal life who askes you "why have the surgery ?" ..... do you buy them a cup of coffee and let them tell u what to do... as i said before to everyone who said i may have a eating disorder thanks!

i noticed, i just dont think its okay for people to judge. there are so many people who hide t here surgery because of negative responses. .. feeling like they have to justify what the want to do with there own body. ive had co workers try to Discourage me... mother, sister. .. hell even 4 nurses at the hospital came out and said i shouldn't have done it.... unfortunately they arent the ones who knees hurt feet are swollen. or have to look for plus sizes . so when you like someone comment "why have the surgery if your not going to follow the rules?" it speaks volumes.

Lol, bobbyswife you weren't talking to me either since you didn't address me, But i will address you. Believe me, i trust the advice of my dr. Over internet NUTS any day of the week. Lol, chewing up pizza and spittng it out because you can't swallow it due to your sleeve being new MAY point to a mental health issue in bariatric patients? Please show me a bit of info on this phenomenon, unbiased please. Lol, i hardly call myself being nasty because i questioned someone's judgment of the OP, and these so called "rules" that every bari patient MUST follow. Who did i call an EX FATTY? why put on a shoe that doesn't fit? That comment was a general statement not aimed at anyone in particular but i wonder why you felt it was an attack on someone. Actually, no i don't. Hmm.

Wasn't going to chime in, but changed my mind.

@DBLPattyMELT7am Answer: It's not weird.

While I totally get the craving/wanting to part (I certainly am not perfect), I will only say try not to make it something you do often. There is plenty of evidence that chewing & spitting has medical side effects - just google it. It is classified in most circles as disordered eating. In fact, people who have this problem (talking chronic here) tend to actually gain weight and can have stomach & mouth issues. I would guess if people with "normal" stomachs have issues, our smaller/healing tummies might have bigger problems...but that is just my guess.

One time does not a chronic problem make. I would argue knowing this can develop into a habit is something worth keeping in mind.

Good luck on your journey!

Yes, I think that it's weird. Like others have said, I think it points towards an eating disorder. The hardest part for me at that stage was the fact that everything I was eating was so bland. Nothing had any flavor, and that's what I missed the most. It'll be okay.

i too am down 15 pounds in (a bit less than) a week. i can't wait to really just get back to eating. i have never had a problem with food choices--my issue has always been feeling hungry ALL the time and metabolic concerns due to hormones and thyroid issues. i know how to eat healthily--i just didn't know how to STOP eating healthy foods once i started because my hunger hormones would be in OVERDRIVE!

now since the hunger/satiety issues have been addressed via surgery, my thyroid doctor is hoping my metabolism and hormonal wackouts fix themselves in the upcoming months and i can have a NORMAL reaction to food.

no more being full to bursting while STILL fighting "hunger pangs" at the same time! YAY!

i hope i can digest a good ole small - med slice by this time next year!

and don't worry OP...soon you will be able to hold a bit more than 4 bites, and actually get down small meals (small but meals nonetheless) that will have you feeling a bit more "normal".

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
