Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

I just found out my surgery will be in July (granted my pre-op testing goes okay) SOOOOOOOOO

Here's a thread for everyone getting banded in July 07!

Does anyone have any good ideas for a neat name we could call ourselves?

I on the other hand suffer from bad spelling!!!!!!!!!!!! Teacher, don't grade me!!!! I just realized there is a spell check on the reply box.......Duh

So my Dr scheduled me for my first fill on September 13th. I was banded July 19th. Doesnt that seem like a very long time? IT DOES TO ME! LoL When is everyone elses fill spt?

Kathy - I can relate to the "no restriction" rule.....everything seems to go down just fine, so my limitations have to be my own. I ate out for the first time since surgery (7/31) at a favorite mexican restaurant and I felt I did really well. I ate maybe 8 tortillia chips and salsa and then half a quesadilla with chicken and was stuffed!!! But as my DH and I ate, I asked him to remember what we use to be able to down at this favorite place of ours: almost two baskets of chips and salsa and then a main meal to boot. So I felt good actually bringing home a doggie bag....as this was a rare occasion before. I did not feel guilty, but proud that I ate a "normal" meal and knew when to stop.....that is what I want to learn.....but I can't wait until a fill (9/13) so that I can have that limitation imposed even more!!!:hungry:

Jackie - don't panic, remember the NSV's!!! Your measurements may have changed or your clothes may feel looser.....screw the scale, it spends so much time bringing us down when we really need to feel encouragement!! You hang in there.....:clap2:

One thing I have to rant about is all this out loud burping!! Sheesh....it's embarassing!!! Can't wait until that subsides.....

Well, my summer is nearly over. I will be teaching my first biology lecture (I am a grad student) this semester, along with two biology labs. I normally only teach the labs, so I am pretty nervous, since I am going to have to teach material that I haven't had myself in several years. I'm hoping that it all comes back enough that I can help other people learn it. The ecology, evolution, and environmental stuff is cake to me, but the molecular stuff is something that I've always struggled with. My first class is next Friday, so I still have several days to review, luckily.

I go in on Wednesday for my second fill. Right now, I have some restriction, but not nearly as much as I'd like. My incisions are itching like crazy, though. And I've still got marks where the bandaid they put on at my first fill gave me blisters. Can you believe it? BLISTERS. That has never happened to me before. I don't know if I am developing a latex allergy (my hands have itched in the past when I've worn latex gloves) or if I am sensitive to the adhesive now.

laurend- I got blisters under 2 of my steri strips after surgery. 1 of them was a pretty big blister too. The doc told me that it was from the adhesive. They also used a paper tape on my arm to cover where they took blood the morning of surgery and that broke my arm out and tore the skin a little. OUCH!!!;) I had never had either happen before.

Wow I would be lost with the schooling you have taken. I am not one for the science and math things. I am one for the psychology and sociology. That stuff really intrigues me.

Caolin- Thanks for the words of encouragement. I slipped tonight and actually ate 1 cup of cottage cheese about 10pm. At least it was low fat 1%. Not that that excuses me. I was feeling pretty rotten about it earlier but I am over it now. Can't dwell on the mistake. I guess I can feel better knowing that I chose the cottage cheese instead of a slice of cheesecake my son was eating. The thought of having that didn't even cross my mind. I don't know what it is with me and cottage cheese lately. I crave the stuff like mad!!!!!!!!! :noidea:

I do feel better after reading yours and others posts. I do need to be proud because I am sticking to my exercising. I even bought a couple others as I mentioned in a differnet post and I signed up for my water aerobics today. Can't start those until Sept though. That scale will move soon. I am just at my first of many platea's. I was losing so rapidly before that it was just like I hit a brick wall and came to a halt. I know others are going through the same thing. It will happen.

Jackie, I know exactly how you feel, this is how I was last week. The plateau is bound to hapen to everyone, and the gain could be from muscle. You've been excercising a lot, and following eating guidelines, so it will work itself out. Mine did this week. It's been 2 1/2 weeks since my fill, and I finally lost again. I think out bodies just need time to catch up to our new lifestyle, that's all. I know it's easier to dish out the advice than to take it, because I was in your shoes last week, but everyones advice helped me get through it, and hopefully this will help you too. Kepp doing what you're doing, and things will work out.

silntwhispers, "sliming" is when you burp and liquids come back up, and a "PB" is when you burp and food comes back up.

Kathy, it stinks when vacation is over, but you'll be leaving again soon, for a vacation with your DH!! Does he know yet???

Laurend, I called the Dr.'s and they said they would get me in for a fill if I didn't have any restriction, but that's just it, I can't tell if I do feel restriction. I portion out my 4 ozs, and I stop. Most of the time I eat all 4 ozs, a few times I've stopped before I eat all 4. I feel like I have the control now, so I don't know where the restriction is. After the 4 ozs I'm satisfied, I feel like I could eat more, but would be miserable if I do, so I stop. It's usually about 2 1/2 hours later when my belly starts to growl again, and I eat about 3 hours apart. So what has your schedule been like? How much are you eating now? Just wanted to compare notes to see if I should be going in for my fill before the 31st.

Caolin, great job at the restraunt. Isin't it amazing to think back on what we used to eat to feel full compared to what we eat now.

Well, I need to go make some breakfast or everyone. They get chocolate chip pancakes, and I'm not even going to be tempted after the chocolate chip cookie I ate 2 nights ago, and felt so sick afterwards, and had the runs yesterday from it. It was no fun!!

To be honest, I think you still have restriction. If you didn't, you would still be very hungry after eating only 4 ounces. Compare how you eat now to how you ate before the band. Before, would you have been satisfied with 4 ounces? I eat a lot less than I did before I was banded, but it still takes more than 4 ounces to satisfy me, generally. For example, I made lasagna and fresh green beans for dinner for my family and myself a few days ago. I was able to eat a 3" x 4" piece of lasagna and at least 1/2 cup of green beans before I was satisfied. Now, before I was banded, I would have gone back for a second helping of both, so I know I am eating a lot less than I was, but not as little as I should be eating.

Laurend, that makes sense. I think I'm going to wait until the 31 for my next fill. I'm still losing, very little, but it's a loss none the less. It's hard because I've never had a full feeling before. I'm only had that 'way too full feeling' where I feel I need to get sick to be comfortable. So I think it will take some getting used to the feeling I have after I eat and realizing this is what full feels like, or this is what will hold me over until my next meal. Thanks!

Jackie, because you had not exercise in such a long time you are probably gaining muscle. That and the AF water could easily explain what's going on with your weight. Have you taken your measurement? If not, do that and you will pleasantly surprised next time the scale disappoints you.

I had yet another event last night, a cook-out. There were tons of food of course, but I only had a plain hamburger patty, which I chewed extremely slowly. I had no problem eating it, and that confirms my theory that I have no restriction. Wednesday can not come soon enough.

Okay, I'm alive...but, frankly, there's no way I can go back and ready everything I've missed right now. So I thought I'd give a little Fill Update!

I went in and found out that I don't have the 10cc band, I have a 10 CM band that holds 4cc. No biggie - honestly, I don't care or know enough about sizes to know if this is good/bad or it doesn't matter.

My fill doc is great and I didn't feel the stick...at all! He uses a fairly small needle and put in 1.5cc. I didn't feel any different, funny, I thought there'd be lightening, stars, and rainbows when it was done! I've been on liquids and soft food and haven't been hungry...I'm going to try some real food tonight at a wedding, but will take it ssslllloooowww. I actually had a little tighness with scrambled eggs this morning. Hmmmm, maybe I DO have restriction.

Anyhoo...a tip for fills...while lying on your back, if you lift your legs the port will just "pop"...makes finding the port much easier and therefore less sticks to get it right!

Jeanie- Thanks for the complement, but I'm sure my teenagers would laugh at me being called loving. I think the word they describe me as starts with B....But this B does love them with every fiber of my soul. All joking aside, my daughter has not ever suffered from self esteem issues. She is perhaps one of the strongest people I know. I really admire that about her....It doesn't make it an easy household to live in at times because she truly believes she is right about everything and has nothing to learn (but I thought the same thing at 17)

Is the 17 year old your oldest? My girls were quite challenging at that age too, actually still can be at times, lol! They are always right whether they are or not, lol! I know, I keep saying wait til it is their turn to be the mom! I will enjoy that time in my life, lol!!!;)

I on the other hand suffer from bad spelling!!!!!!!!!!!! Teacher, don't grade me!!!! I just realized there is a spell check on the reply box.......Duh

Are you kidding???? Who cares!!! It is nice to talk to such nice people!
