Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Maybe the food cop from the July band and the food cop from the August band should tag team the newbies. The December band needs help. They are eating Jello Cheesecake cups for mushie foods!! I didn't say anything at the time but like you am feeling renewed and empowered so maybe I will go back there and say something.

Sounds good Karri - I just look at the thread titles and respond...

Help i'm not losing - I ask what are you eating - oh never mind - I know i have been making bad choices.. OMG i just can't believe that one or 2 months out you are making bad choices - heck you went through major surgery for Godsake... and you are going to screw this up too.... oh in the back of my mind - I thought it was the easy fix..

Oh i am going to die if i don't get to eat Cookies - come on now no you aren't... Us fat people are just big friggin babies.... Spoiled selfish babies...

I can say this here without getting flamed... Like I said before - I was the biggest excuse giver - you can't sh*t a b*llsh*ter like me...

Ok I will ck out the December thread...

Ok, so it's been a very crazy couple of weeks, and it was fun to read everyone's updates from Christmas & New Years!! :)

I do have a huge (for me anyway) NSV to announce. For Christmas, my hubby got me a Hawaiian dress. It's an XL (Not in plus) and I actually got into it and got it zipped. My stomach is still big and it's a little tight in that area, but I couldn't believe that I could actually get into it. I'm also down to 217 which is a total of 51 pounds. I'm so glad to see the scale moving again, and now know that I really need to kick the exercise into gear this month so that I don't put any back on or stop losing again.

I turn 29 on the 25th of January, and I"m hoping to hit onderland before then, but the only way that's going to happen is if I exercise, so I really need to get motivated. I did 10 days for the December challenge and really want to make it for the January one. :)

Well, I need to go get my Creative Memories inventory counted for end of year but I'll be back on later.

Nichole--Isn't it wonderful to try something like that on--something you never would have dared even try on before--and have it fit!? What a great reward for all your hard work! In a few weeks or so, you will notice it fitting better and better. Yeah for you!

Sign me up for the exersise challenge in January. I am still pedaling my little heart out. Can anyone give me some ideas of some exersizes that I can do with a bum knee? Walking is definately out.

McDonalds. OH MY!! I hve to be the world's biggest junk food junkie. There is something about it (don't ask me what) But I love it!!! Big Macs...m-m-m-m. But I am so proud of myself. Haven't been to Mickey D's since before my surgery.

For those of you who asked...

Moose (1 lb. raw - like I could eat that much)

456 calories

3.3 g fat (it's the leanest meat out there!)

99.5 g of protein!

If you cook it with a little garlic powder...tastes a lot like beef, I use it for anything with a sauce (taco sauce, meatballs, mixed with beef for meatloaf, speghetti, etc.) I also do a lot of roasts...it can get quite dry so I stay away from the steaks. We'll be making some Jerky with this moose though...the freezer's getting full! :-)

Since I am also recovering from knee surgery on 12/21 I can't walk. My doctor told me that I should start doing straight leg lifts 3 sets of 10 hold each for 5 seconds and do leg presses and they said I could ride a stationary bike for 10 minutes with no resistance or an elliptical starting at 10 minutes with no resistance. I'm hoping when I go back on 1/21 I get released and can start walking on the treadmill again. I was really working up some decent mileage and speeds and incline. Hope this helps.

Swimming is always and option...a stationary bike too...no weight, just the movement. Also a weight lifty class/program...you can leave out the squats and work your upper body.

I'd suggest Water exercise. I have bad knees and I LOVE my water aerobics sessions. My legs get a good workout without putting too much pressure on my knees.

I don't think anyone actually kept a tally of the December exercise challenge... we each kept track of our own. And some of us added it to our signature. You can set up a signature by clicking on "Edit Signature" under the Quick Links at the top. Then each time you exercise, go back to that and update the number.

I think I've been to Mickey D's once since my surgery. I had one of their chicken snack wraps. I suppose I should look up the calories and fat grams, but they're small so it can't be too bad. One of my favorite fast foods (that I still indulge in about once a week when I'm home in WA) is KFC.... this is weird but I get mashed potatoes, no gravy, and coleslaw! And I mix them together!

We made some killer Seafood Soup a few days ago.. made it like vegetable soup, couple of cans of tomatoes, frozen mixed veggies, can of white Beans, some celery, onion, garlic, about a pound of mixed seafood.... shrimp, clams, artificial crab, etc., and seasoned it with a little Old Bay Seasoning, chili powder and a little curry powder. Very low fat, low carb, low cal and it was soooo good... still is... there's still some left. Always better after the first day.

Congratulations! Everyone who has responded to me so far has made their holiday challenge!!! I am so proud of everyone. For all of those people out there who think we took the easy way by having WLS, well, we all know that's not true. So for our first Christmas as bandsters, we should all be very very proud of our results. Whether we gained a few pounds or lost a lot, we are all in much better positions this year than we were last. So enough preamble... here's what I have for today.

Lindaa - Level 2 - Total loss = 1 lb ACHIEVED!

Forgive/Nicole - Level 3 - Total loss = 8 lbs ACHIEVED!

Salsa/Karri - Level 3 - Total loss = 8 lbs ACHIEVED!

Jackie - Level 2 - Total loss = 3 lbs ACHIEVED!

Phyl - Level 2 - Total loss = 0.4 lb ACHIEVED!

Kathy - Level 2 - Total loss = 1 lb ACHIEVED!

Phyl we are related. Seahawks fans and you mix your tatoes and cole slaw!! I always get made fun of for doing that, but I love it. It is the perfect blend of creamy and crunchy... salty and kinda sweet. I always get the gravy though. I think I have had this once since surgery. It was the healthiest thing I could find.

On the McDonald's issue. I used to LOVE McD's as a kid, my favorite restaurant. I worked at Burger King for 5 and a 1/2 years in HS and college. But haven't been a big fan of McD's in a number of years, but I have eaten there. I went to Las Vegas about a month and a half after the surgery and since I couldn't eat much and didn't want to waste the money on a buffet, I would go to a McD's in a casino and get a small plain hamburger and then toss the top bun and eat the rest. I've been a few times, but haven't done so except when I'm traveling.

My favorite fast food now is Wendy's. Off the 99 cent menu, I'll get a baked potato and a chicken sandwich. Toss the top bun and eat the rest. Delicious and very filling. I don't think fast food is the enemy, just something that we ate too much of, way too often. I think if you use your head and don't indulge too frequently, you can eat anything you want.

I asked my Dr before Xmas if there was any medical reason that we should avoid diet soft drinks and he said no, it's just that you might find that it makes you feel uncomfortable or eat more. So, I've reintroduced diet soft drinks (with caffeine) to my diet. I just control the portions, so I'm not back on six or more cans per day.

One of my new goals is to track my food in a journel. I'd do it online, but find I don't always have my computer available, so want to use a written journel. Does anyone have an electronic version that they are particularly fond of? I've created one in Word that I think I'll use, but am open to other suggestions. I've attached it below...

Anyone who uses a journal, please critic this one and/or send me what you find useful.

Thanks!!

Nicole - Motivation - is to have that dress fit ... Aren't you the one who put the challenge out there for us... So I consider you our exercise leader - is that enought pressure 7_5_125v.gif aka motivation 36_1_33.gif

For those of you who asked...

Moose (1 lb. raw - like I could eat that much)

456 calories3.3 g fat (it's the leanest meat out there!)

99.5 g of protein!

You are going to have to send us all some 4_1_100.gif that's a lot lower in calories than beef..

Very low fat, low carb, low cal and it was soooo good... still is... there's still some left. Always better after the first day.

Phyl - soup sounds great !!!! I like to mix my refried beans with the lettuce on my plate when I eat mexican I like cole slaw but I am funny about mayo - I don't know how long it's been sitting out in coleslaw - and sometimes it seems really watery.. So I ususally don't eat it - Just the mash potates - and I don't consider mash potatoes or refired beans as fast food - the other stuff yes - fries onion rings zuchinnee hamburgers - but even kfc fried chicken is is real food - Heck I think a big mac has like 800 calories and with soda and fries it's like 1500 calories - omg that more than i eat in one day..

Ok for your chicken wraps - the grilled ones are 270 calories and the fried ones are 320 calories. I am a del taco girl I love red burrittos - 430 calories and I have had one since surgery and ate the whole thing..

Brandy - My doc said the only reason not to drink it was cuz the carbonation depletes your calicum - I have had a diet dr pepper & ginger ale - I have poured them in a glass and let them sit a bit - and sip - I have never been a big soda drinker - about 1 a month - it's not a trigger for me - but sometimes I want a ginger ale or dr pepper - I alway get diet cuz i ain't wasting 200 calories on a soda - I want food for 200 calories...

Ok gang - got my exercise in & made the Kathy's Level 2 challenge Tomorrow @ 3:30 getting tooth pulled so I guess I will be doing very soft mushie for a few days...

3_9_6v.gif

Well I am starving - gotta put my salmon in the oven - will ck back later

Yes I was the one who put it out there, and I only hit half. I would have had at least 5 more days, but I was too tight for a week and didn't eat more than 400 calories a day and didn't drink a lot of Water either because even that hurt to go down.

But, the good thing was that because of being too tight, I made the Level 3 challenge, and actually exceeded it by 3 pounds. I am happy to because I haven't put any of that weight back on, so I'm doing something right.

Now to just get out and exercise. :):)

Thanks for the motivation!!

Nichole we both had fills that were too tight and I am sure that is what helped the weightloss. However, we should take some credit too. We could have caused ourselves problems and eaten more despite the pain. Or taken the opportunity to drink high calorie drinks. Fortunately my fills seems to have loosened a little. It is terrible to be so tight.

Congrats to everyone for losing ANYTHING! The holidays can be rough on the pocketbook and the waistline. Fortunately it seems that most of us weathered the waistline problem...as for the pocketbooks, mine was emptied in August with the best Christmas present I could have ever given myself. Who would of thought that surgery would be a great present.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
