Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hello! My third post-op day went well and I've started to lose weight again! Which is no wonder with so few calories per day. I'll be glad when I can get off of these terrible shakes. I really don't like vanilla or chocolate sweet drinks!

Out of curiosity, how many of you are like me and haven't told anybody at their job that they are having surgery? I'm usually the one who tells everybody anything they would like to know, but decided to keep this very, very private!

Just curious!

Me too... I'm a major "over sharer" on everything, but this time its my own private knowledge. I've only told my manager, who I greatly respect and consider a friend. Everyone else I've told I have to have my hiatal hernia fixed. Similar procedure, so it explains my pre & post diet and my soreness.

If anyone wants free samples of Matrix 5.0 or nectar Protein powders, all they have to do is contact Syntrax by phone or email, and they'll send them to you. They come in little 1/2 serving packets that you just mix with 1/2 cup of Water. So far, I've tried the Matrix 5.0 Cookies and Cream, and it's pretty good. I've got the Apple Ecstacy, strawberry Kiwi, and Roadside Lemonade flavors to try, also (I got my packets from another LBT member). Here's the Syntrax link (there should be contact info somewhere on it): SI03 INC.

Cazulay, you are not alone. I'm sure many of us have had the same struggle that you're dealing w/right now. But just know, you are taking a courageous step in getting control of your wt, thus your life. You should be applauding yourself!!! I know right now, emotions are running high, but just give yourself time. It'll be so worth it.

ILuvMyBoys, welcome! I hope you enjoy our awesome group. We're glad you found us.

Lainy, sorry you've been feeling so down. Just remember, it may be some of the residual anesthesia talking right now, so just give yourself some time and remember that you have done a wonderful thing. Like I told Cazulay, I know right now, emotions are running high, but just give yourself time. It'll be so worth it.

Jnkntrnk, don't feel alone! We are here for you. I feel so bad b/c so many of our group are feeling down. :cry It will get better.

Becca, we love you too! The Lucky 7s are the best!!!!

Nurse76, wow. Watch out for that chix! I'm glad you're feeling much better now. Do you have any papaya enzyme on hand? My dietician gave us this in case we do get s'thing stuck, this will help it break down and pass.

Marcy, thank you so much! And yes, I am beyond excited. Only 5 more days!!!!!:clap2:

Dini, Lynette, Dmtjet, Sunny and everyone else, hello!!!

Dini, this must be a latin thing...my mother used to do the same thing to me, except she wasn't skinny!!! She would buy a ton of junk food and give us horrible examples and then get on my case big time about my figure- how I would never find a husband ( she did!), how I had no clothes, how I looked old and ugly. I think she was trying to help me, like motivate me, but let me tell you it did not help me at all!

Thanks for all words of encouragent. As my favorite heroin ( Scarlett O'Hara) says " Tomorrow is another day."

Pretty good. I drove back to Tennessee today. My air-conditioning in my apartment started working again, I think, but since I was going to be away for several more days, I just turned the whole thing off, just in case. I've had a stitch in my side, right around where my port incision is, off and on all day. I first noticed it when I woke up this morning. I think I just over-did it yesterday.

Hi everyone. Today was a better day. Not as sore but I still have some soreness. Been coughing and doing my breathing exercises - both help a lot. I've already rode the bike twice today and have been walking around the house. Every once in a while it feels like there is a lump in my chest and then it rolls and disapears. It only seems to happen if I'm sitting in a semi-laying position in my bed.

I know this sounds bad and funny but I finally had some bowel movements today. Earlier today my hubby was reading my discharge info and he was getting really worried cause I hadn't had any movement - now he's happy. lol Who would have ever thought my hubby would be happy with his wife having bowel movements. lol

My throat still hurts and I'll be happy when that pain goes away.

I have a question about crushing your pills. I've been crushing them and it really sucks mixing them in my Jello to eat them. What do you put your crushed pills in to make them go down easier?

Wrangler, I don't crush mine, they've been going down very well. This could change once I get a fill, but I've been doing pills since the day of surgery, I just break them in half.

I'll be back on a little later, just got home, and Hunter wants to play in his sand box before dark, so outside we go!!

Thank you for the warm welcomes! And for the "yes I took a shower very quickly" info. I don't know how you all keep up with soooo many July Banders!!

Nurse76: What form is your papaya enzyme in? Is it something I could get at a health food store prior to surgery? It sounds worth having around in case one of the dreadeds happen.

Thanks to everyone for welcoming me back! I had my band on July 10 and am doing well, went back to work on July 16.

I haven't shared with anyone at work, just my husband and children, sisters and mom. I am a very open person, I just wanted this to be private because of the negativitiy that might be perceived with the WLS.

After reading some of the posts, I wanted to share this tidbit of information with everyone. After surgery I felt so weird, not knowing what to do with my time and trying not to obsess over food. I found that writing down my thoughts help to keep my mind very busy. I also found that the busier I am the better off I am. Food prep and the meal itself should take up such a little time in our lives now, we should feel empowered to get out and play with our children, walk, read, knit or visit with friends.

I encourage each one of us to explore something new and be uplifted with the time we can spend with this new found hobby!

Have a great evening

Cazulay, I don't understand people, especially mothers, how could the berate their own children! I don't get it!!! They say, usually when this happens it is because they don't really like themselves much and has nothing to do with the child! I am sure it wasn't YOU!

Wrangler, I don't crush mine either and I am on some HORSEPILL mega Vitamins, lol! I just do one at a time and those that I can break in half I do. It takes me awhile, but I do get them down without any problems!

Laurend, thanks for the Matrix info!

You can edit your posts, but when you hit on the edit key, you'll get a screen with everything you typed out, but a smiley face will be inbetween each letter. Makes it hard to change anything you need to.

Lynette, when you are editing, click on the advance button and it will take you from all the smiley faces to a regular text paragraph to edit. Very easy to do.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
