Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Hi, July!

Thanks for all the great updates, Lynette. You are doing a fantastic job of keeping us all "organized".

Congratulations, Breadlady!! I'll be keeping you in my thoughts & prayers tomorrow!

I'm half way through my mandated 10% pre-op weight loss. So I decided to call my surgeon's office this morning & see if I could get an appt. to get on with this process. I didn't know if I needed any pre-op tests, pre-authorization from Medicare, other pre-op appts., etc. But they wouldn't let me talk to the nurse & just passed on a message from him to "keep up" what I was doing! My husband got tired of my weeping & wailing after that phone call, so he decided to call & put in another polite but more adamant request for a call back. Some six hours later, I did get a call back. At first it got even more depressing as he told me they were all booked up for July & I had to get in line behind other folks who they'd been seeing since January! But there was a sudden change of heart & he told me they have one patient who is thinking of rescheduling so he may have an opening for me & he'll call me back tomorrow.... so I MAY have a surgery date tomorrow!! Woo Hoo!!

:)

Wohoo Breadlady! Good luck sister! My prayers are with you!

I keep reading this stuff about the Magic Bullet. Now, I know that we're all talking about the little food processor....but, while I worked in a home health department at our hospital we had a quadrapeligic patient who used what he called the "Magic Bullet" suppository to really get things out, if you know what I mean....so that's the first thing that pops in my mind. Yeah, I'm a sicko sometimes!

Marcy,

Gross!! Do I detect a little "nurse humor" here???

I've been campaiging for a "Magic Bullet".... the blender type... since I read about them here. costco has them for $49.99.

WOOOO!!! WOOOOO!!!! Way to go BreadLady. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. I know you will do great. I bought a Magic Bullet last Thursday and it is just sitting there. I haven't opened it either. Like you, I am still trying to decide if I want it. I guess it would be great for shakes and chopping meat, making egg salad, chicken salad, tuna salad, etc. I'm still not sure. Let me know if you use yours and I will open mine...:)

Welcome Karen.

Dini, who could overlook you???:biggrin1:

Phyl, hope you get that day in July. Please let us know.

BreadLady, I would love to chat.

IMHO... I have a Hamilton Beach personal blender....costs about $15, and works just great !!!! Holds about 12 oz max ... more than enough for one drink.

If you get one...just use the button as a "pulse" ...... not pushing it continously... I read somewhere holding the button continously will burn out the motor ..... pulsing it will get the job done.

Mine has been working great !! :clap2:

Heh, that's okay. My first though when I first saw people talking about the Magic Bullet was, "Why in the world is everyone talking about a vibrator?" If you didn't know, there is (or used to be) a vibrator by that name that was heavily advertised.

Laurend,

Exactly what I thought. I was like, "Whoa, what's that for?" But guess who just bought one this weekend??? The blender, I mean...:guess

LOL!

Well, guys, I have to start my pre-op liver shrink diet tomorrow. Here's what I get to eat for the next two weeks:

Breakfast: Protein Shake or bar (less than 220 cal and 10 g fat)

Snack: Small piece of fruit

Lunch: Protein shake or bar (less than 220 cal and 10 g fat)

Snack: Small piece of fruit

Dinner: Small piece of lean protein, small salad with fat-free dressing or a non-starchy vegetable, a serving of carbs (several salt-free crackers or two slices of low-cal bread or a starchy vegetable), and a serving of fruit

Snack: Small piece of fruit.

I can also drink low-cal or no-cal drinks and eat all the non-starchy veggies that I want. I think I am going to get sick of fruit, though, by the end of the two weeks. I'll probably be happy to go on liquids.< /p>

Hey ya'll!

I had my appt today and it went well. I got all my pre, pre-op stuff. I have a folder from my docs office that lists all the stuff that I have to get done (i.e., pulmonary stuff, bloodwork, EKG, etc.). It's quite a bit, but it's all for the best. I was busy on the phone scheduling everything.

I have a couple nutrition classes to go to, too. I'm excited! With all of these appts over the next few weeks, the time will fly by and July 25th will be here soon!!!!!

To be honest, I'm actually really tired from the day's events. I travel about 1.5 hrs to my surgeon's office (one way), I scheduled my appts, then came in to work tonight. I am beat. Can't wait to hit the sack. :notagree

Will catch up w/ya'll tomorrow. Gnite!

I was wondering what your diet was gon look like. My doc doesn't require one, but I'd like to follow one anyway, just to get a jump on the wt loss and try to shrink my liver. Let us know what the rest of your diet looks like.

I wish my doctor didn't require one. That's the only thing that I don't like about her program. Oh well, I can follow any diet for two weeks. It's long-term diets that I don't do well with.

I just got back from shopping for the diet. I have a lot of dried fruit on hand, so I didn't need to get any fresh fruit to eat. I got some chicken tenders and some lean pieces of beef, plus some eggs that I could make for my dinner. I also got a lot of frozen vegetables. To give some variety, I figure that I can probably substitute some low-cal yogurt for one of the Protein drinks/bars with no problem, as long as I stay below the 220 cal and 10 g fat limit, since yogurt is pretty high in protein. I also got a big case of bottled Water and some Decaf tea bags for iced tea.

I am going to be meeting with the nutritionist on the 27th, so I'll post the diet after that. I don't think it is going to be bad, though, because from the way the surgeon talked, the pre-op diet was the worst part. I think I am basically going to be restricted to pureed foods for two weeks, and then I'll be able to start regular foods.

I wish my pre-op diet were that interesting, Laurend. I get four medi-fast shakes (90 cals each) and one diet frozen entree a day. I've supplemented that with some sugar free Jello and popsicles but that's it. Two weeks never seemed so long...

Hi all,

Well it's just about 1 a.m. I can't sleep! Too pumped up. I even took a Xanax to help me sleep. No such luck. I have to get up in 3 hrs. 30 mins.

Does the sleep you get under anesthesia count as sleep? I sure hope so.

I'm going to give it another whirl.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
