Wow. Oh are you having RNY? Maybe it's a dumping issue, I had the sleeve. It was recommended to be by my dr, the liquid Tylenol.

Nope, I had the sleeve. I was kind of surprised too, but I guess I'll follow it until I meet with him on Friday.

If I may ask, what is your "weird" reaction? Many people (not saying that you're one of them!) confuse allergies with side effects. Narcotics are narcotics and they all cause pretty much the same side effects. It is very common for someone to think they have an allergy to something when they truly don't.

Btw, Dilaudid is the strongest opiate available that can be given to patients post-operatively. It is eye-opening to hear some people express that they had little to no pain, while others needed the strongest narcotic in existence. This thread is very valuable to inform others that there can be such a broad spectrum to post-op pain. Thanks for creating this thread!

That's why I was careful not to use allergy, but reaction. ???? I've had seven surgeries and have always been able to take hydrocodone (usually only needed it for maybe a day or two), but this summer after my knee surgery, I broke out in hives and itched so bad I was just bawling. We tried all 3 strengths and then Tramadol. Same insane itching and redness.

I've been given Dilaudid through IV in the hospital, and it just makes me spacey, doesn't really do much for pain.

I'm *hoping* I won't need anything, but I'd like to be prepared just in case.

That's actually not uncommon with opiates. I itch like mad, but they can give you Benadryl and it will stop it. Just tell them ahead of time. Just a thought.

Huh. I know all dr's are different, but to be that worries over the sugar content of liquid Tylenol seems excessive. Talk to him. Also see if the sugar content in adult liquid Tylenol is lower than children's Tylenol (yes it exists, I found it both at Walmart and Amazon).

I was also wondering about being able to open up Tylenol capsules and sprinkling them in my Water. That's what they have me doing with my Prilosec. I'll have to check out the adult liquid. I have to call the office about changing my post-op appointments anyway. I'll ask at the same time. I'd just like to find something that takes the edge off without being the narcotics (unless I really need them).

Good luck! They should be able to find something. I mean the IV Tylenol has no sugar. You can at least have that in the hospital!

Keep us posted on what they say!

Yep, and the IV Tylenol worked great. I only needed the kick of dilaudid a couple of times...

Will do!

They will find somethjng to give you. Most pain meds are meant to take your mind off the pain, and help you sleep. The docs will know what to give you.

Hives equals an allergy and that sucks. Itching, nausea, and Constipation are common but hives are a definite problem. I hope they can figure out how to treat you and or you have little pain. Good luck! Keep us posted.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
