Question about travel

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I should be done with all the preop requirements mid December and my insurance coordinator will submit to to blue cross federal. I'm kinda thinking I may get denied the first round cause my bmi 2 years ago was 33.6. Now it's 36 and I've had chronic high blood pressure for many years. I take 2 meds a day for it. I'm a little worried because I travel for work with trips planned in December and January. I'm so afraid of blood clots and that's always been a huge concern for me. Has anyone else traveled within a few weeks of surgery or have you gotten any direction from your physician? I'd appreciate any comments. Thanks!

I traveld out of my area for surgery...I traveled back home one week after surgery and did fine. (There were two people that were operated on the same day I was and traveled 4 days after surgery.)

Of course, you need to watch out for lifting - you won't be able to lift your luggage.

Hi. I travel every week. I was sleeved on 7/31/14. And my first trip was 2 weeks later. My doctor did give me medication (injections to self-administer) the day before travel and the evening of travel. He also instructed me to get up and walk on every flight.

Here are a few other travel tips:

I am fortunate because I am able to rent a car in many of the cities so I found Wendy's to buy chili, a grocery store (sliced turkey breast!) and a GNC/Vitamin Shoppe for Isopure. I bring my Protein shakes and bars (once I was allowed to have bars again). I also try to stay in a hotel that has a fitness room and a mini-kitchen so I can heat Soup.

If I must eat in a restaurant, I volunteer to select the restaurant for the group so I can choose a place that has options for me. I can find an Italian restaurant and order meatballs or lasagna (and not eat the noodles). I also found Qdoba and Salsarita's for refried Beans.

One last comment. People are interested in what they are going to eat. I haven't had anyone comment on what I order, how I order or how much I eat (or don't eat). Do what makes sense for you. Good luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
