Life changing gastric sleeve to misery..... help

Recommended Posts

please relax a bit, but know this does happen, evidently, at least that's what I keep hearing! One of our other friends had the surgery a few weeks ago, she is doing well... I thought she was crazy! My friend on the other hand is having another set back, her feeding tube is falling out a bit, so she is headed back to the hospital tonight, probably gonna have it removed, she hasn't used it for nutrition, but the doctors wanted to leave it "just in case"...

So sorry to hear that your friend went though this horrible experience but glad she is doing better. I had my sleeve done last Monday with no complications, thankfully... But the patient in the room next to me had to go back into the surgery room because of a ruptured intestine after her bypass. I don't know much about her history except that she had already had the band then the sleeve. On a good note my sister spoke with her mom and she was doing better.

This is really scary even for me that already went through the surgery! I hope people that are waiting to get their sleeves don't get scared off but it is important to know the risks.

Wish everyone the best on their journeys!

I know this is an old thread, but just an update... We finally found out what went wrong, Dr.Kalim at Hamot hospital in Erie pa did her surgery. Sometime during the surgery he twisted her stomach, creating a hourglass like shape that couldnt allow food to pass, therefore when they did the barium swallow to see why it was leaking the barium couldnt pass through the stomach and she essentially drown on it.... fast forward to years later, when she can no longer even keep Water down, a specialist from Cleveland Clinic does a scope, shocked by what he found, nothing at this point can pass through her stomach because strictures have formed at the twisted area, causing a complete blockage. She is scheduled to have her stomach removed completely next week. Praying this works

Wow, this is awful. Sending prayers.

Just curious, but why wasn't this caught during the barium swallow right after surgery?

Hi I'm new here and tend to not be quick to believe things either... Was this surgeon experienced in this type of surgery? What type of pre-surgical testing did your friend have? Did she have an existing heart condition? What did she weight before the surgery?

Many on here like me who are pre-op do get frighten from these post but please tell the entire story.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
