I've posted a few topics here lately and so many of you are so kind to give me your opinions and helpful tips. My mind has been racing ever since I found out that I am eligible for surgery in 6 months rather than 12 months. I'm very curious about this question .....

How many of you out there who have had surgery or are going to have surgery, also suffer from PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome)? I was diagnosed about 7 years ago. I also have Hypothyroidism and Peripheral Edema. The edema I have dealt with for at least 13 yrs - I have been to many physicians including PCP, Endocrinologist, Cardiologist, back to another PCP, etc. Only in the past year have they come to the realization that my edema is just from my weight.

That being said, the reason I have such a difficult time losing weight is in part because of the PCOS. My hormones are all out of sorts, my thyroid is wacky. With PCOS my doctor tells me without losing significant weight I am looking at becoming a diabetic in the near future which will only add to my issues. I don't want to become diabetic and I do want to be healthier.

Those of you with PCOS and various other problems, after you had your surgery did your symptoms subside or go away completely? I'm really hoping that after this surgery not only will I lose weight and become much healthier, I'm also hoping that my PCOS, Edema and Thyroid issues will also go away. Who can relate?

I also have hypothyroidism, and edema from weight. I cannot comment on the POCS as I don't have that problem. My doc says we will chase the thyroid issue as I lose weight the levels will go crazy. I will always have the thyroid issue but hoping the edema goes away as well. there is no just cause for that issue. I hope all goes well for you..... I am hoping for a December date

I have pcos, and was banded last year with a revision to sleeve this year. With the band, some of my symptoms subsided, my blood sugar dropped so I was no longer at risk for diabetes. I still did not have periods, and the acne was still a little bit of an issue, and I never had the excess hair problem, but I did see relief in the one issue that concerned me the most, which was the blood sugar. The weight loss gets a lot easier than regular diet alone since you can eat less food it messes with your hormones and it falls off in spurts, though the gym is still necessary. I am hoping to see more improvements in my symptoms from the sleeve.

I have pcos and I have surgery Wednesday. I'm hoping for a big difference, too! I've heard there's a pcos sleevers board but I haven't found it yet.

I had an edema problem that left my face so bloated and unrecognizable. I've noticed that just three weeks after surgery that my face is starting to look like it did before the edema. I'm no longer bloated and swollen as well. It's such a change and I'm starting to think that I've released some toxins from my body.

I had hyperthyroidism in my 20's when I was active and

thin. After a baby, I gained quite a bit of weight and developed hypothyroidism. I do think your thyroid changes with weight loss and gain. You may have to adjust your thyroid meds as you lose weight.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
