October 2014 sleevers check in please!

  • Popular Post

Hey everyone! I just wanted to keep in touch with everyone on the postop boards now that most of us are done and in a few more days the remainder of us October sleevers will be done as well.

How is everyone doing? Feel free to share any problems, suggestions, recipes that helped you get your Protein in, and any other advice you'd like to share. Ask questions, if you have them. Use this thread as you see fit, but mostly to keep in touch with everyone.

I know quite a few people went to the Facebook page. I know it's private, but I've seen cases where private information was temporarily made public on Facebook by Facebook glitches/viruses/hacks. I know there is no intention of it going public but I rather not take the risk.

So I hope to hear from you all soon!!

Best wishes and good luck!

The first six months are the easiest time to lose weight because your restriction is at its greatest. After 6 months post-op, the stomach can start to hold a larger capacity of food and hunger increases. Thus, making it harder to lose weight.

I also read somewhere that the stomach has a slight ability to stretch a little after the first 6 months. I'm assuming that is because your stomach is almost completely healed after 6 months. I did some extensive research on stomach dialation after VSG surgery out of curiosity and the fact that I want to know everything I can to succeed. Most of the research concluded that the stomach of a VSG patient will stretch due to habitual overeating. So, a few times of overeating won't cause permanent dialation. However, if you are eating past the point of fullness or discomfort multiple times a week, then it may stretch without shrinking back.

I will try to find these research articles and post them. If you want to do your own research on stomach stretching, then type in the term "neo-fundus" as this is the terminology used for the part of the stomach with the capacity to stretch.

Thanks for all the wonderful comments regarding my weight loss. We are all in this together and I appreciate the support!

Rebecca, lol, we want to know :-)

Ok this last page of post has scared me straight. Don't get me wrong, I've been pretty good but I do give myself a little treat here and there.

Knowing that after six months it could possibly get more difficult, I really need to be more focused. I need to up my workout & watch my carbs more closely.

Yes!!! I feel the same way. I've lost a little over 70 pounds, but don't feel any smaller. I think I had a misperception about what I actually looked like 70 pounds ago.

I feel the same way. I mentioned that to my sister in law and she told me to go look at myself before the surgery. I guess it is the 75 lbs heavier picture that doesn't seem possible.

Mona, looks like you are so close to your goal. Awesome! How has the journey been for you? I have been struggling since Jan.

Mona, great weight loss!!!!

Peek, I've been struggling since January too. Finally, just On Monday, the weight started coming back off. Hopefully it keeps up for awhile!

Stephh did you do anything different to get the losing going again?

I honestly don't think so. I track my food everyday, get in my 65 grams of protein, etc. I just feel like my body needed to catch up. Attached is a comparison from January 13 to February 13. There was only a five or six pound difference, but to me it looks like a lot more. It reminded me that even if the scale isn't changing, my body is and I was very glad to have progressive pictures!

Stephh, u r awesome with that picture taking :-)

I will weigh Saturday and see what happens for me. One of my main issues has been constipation but I seem better this week. TMI :-) we will see.
