I'm 2 weeks out, and lost 15 pounds so far. I also have Constipation but I'm afraid to use any stool softener by mouth. I'm using glycerine suppositories, but they do nothing. I'm thinking to have some prune juice but I'm afraid my stomach cannot hold fibers yet.

My NP told me to take milk of Magnesia. It takes several hours to kick in but it works and was easy on my stomach. It doesn't react in the stomach like some other methods do.

I have Constipation terribly. I did not go for 10 days which of course caused many issues. My doctors nurse practitioner said she has taken mira lax everyday since her surgery. I started that yesterday. Mine was so bad I could not pass stool that had accumulated in my rectum. she also recommended a mineral oil enema which they sell over the counter. It was a miracle for me. I am praying the Mira lax works to get things going. I know it is not supposed to be good for you to take it everyday but neither is horrible constipation or impaction. Once things get going I hope to be able to back off of everyday, but we will see. By the way, I have a retrocele which is when the rectal wall collapses into the vaginal wall and forms a pocket where stool gets caught. So my issue may be different than most. I hope you find relief. It is the worst feeling!

How are people getting their workouts un? I am a teacher, most days i dont have time to eat at work and so I am always tired and by the time I get home normally around 6 or 7pm after meetings and work the thought of spending another hr away from my fiance, friends, or pjs. I'm really struggling and I feel like a failure. I'm hoping this is just a passing phase.

Thanks peek. I am at a stall now. I am stuck at a 17 lb loss for a few days. Of course I am getting frustrated and impatient.

I start soft foods tomorrow. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The fist few days of soft and puree I tried a scrambled egg with cheese then pintos and cheese from taco bell that night. I had no problems. I was able to eat almost one egg and most of the Beans that night.

Just over 3 weeks post op for me and im down 34 pounds since surgery. I'm still on semi solid foods. eggs are definitely a mainstay. Love em poached with a runny yolk to retain the good nutrients. Non fat refried Beans, 2% cottage cheese are also great. I'm looking to start using more seasonings and sauces. Any suggestions?

My go to Protein powder is fuzzy navel by Syntrax. Superior solubility, excellent taste and no added gum additives. Went back to work this past Monday and am holding up just fine. Just trying not to get overwhelmed.

@@slareau, not everyone has the same food list on puree, So please check your list before eating anything anyone suggest.

I puréed rotisserie chicken with a little chicken broth in a food processor . I'm also allowed mashed potatoes. I eat my chicken first (2-3 ounces) and if I have room 1-2 ounces of potatoes.

I also have pureed corned beef hash, pureed chili. Cottage cheese. I made the pot roast recipe from eggface's blog, and put it through the food processor, it was good. I pureed the meat & carrots only . My husband ate the potatoes. I can also have puréed fish, but haven't tried that.

Breakfast is usually oatmeal, eggs or cream of wheat.

Hope that helps.

@@sschoch30 this could be due to a lot of different things. Are you taking your pain meds on an empty stomach? That causes nausea. Is there anything that is irritating your sense of smell? That's also a big factor in nausea.

My Dr. said its expected and to just gets liquids in. Protein Shakes give me the worst tummy ache and nausea. He added phenergan today and I feel a little better. Just taking it one day at a time. I don't take any pain meds and would consider this an easy recovery if I didn't have so much nausea.

The Protein drinks I have been using give me horrible gas pains. I am thinking of buying unflavored Protein powder that I can sprinkle on food to get my Protein in. Does anyone have a Protein Powder they can recommend?

Also I am at three weeks and just started soft foods. I can't seem to get more than a small bite down without feeling sick. How long does this feeling last. I find that I am not eating because I hate that feeling.

Thanks Ali!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
