If your band is adjusted right you should not need Topomax or any drugs The point of the band is to have satisfaction with your small portion and by eating Protein first you should not need anything else. check with your surgeon to make sure you don't have a leak or any other issues.

I don't Currently have a surgeon n my primary did a barium swallow n upper gi testing .. he's told me everything is fine even tho I know it's not cause I throw up n get stuck on almost every meal I can't eat meat anymore cause it gets stuck no matter how long I chew it or how slow. He keeps telling me its all in my head.. I measure my food eat throw up than finish. 30min later I'm shaking stomach growing I'm so hungry .. he doesn't wonna give me a referral cause he said all my testing is fine. So he wants to try other methods.. I have state insurance right now n this is the only primary doctor I can get to in network

did u have the band while on the meds? Also what side affect did u notice.. did it change the way food tasted?

No I didn't have the band or any wls when I was on it. I had little to no appetite and yes it affected the taste of foods I could no longer drink soda of any kind and some foods tasted diffrent also had a little tingling in fingers and toes right after I took my fist dose in the am :)

PLEASE BE CAREFUL - I also have a band and I was prescribed Topamax (Topirimate) for Migraines. My doctor warned me of several serious side effects. A full list can be found on the Topamax website. www dot topamax.com/tools-resources--safety-information.html This is a direct quote. "TOPAMAX® may cause eye problems. Serious eye problems include: sudden decrease in vision with or without eye pain and redness; blockage of Fluid in the eye causing increased pressure in the eye (secondary angle closure glaucoma). These eye problems can lead to permanent loss of vision if not treated. You should call your healthcare professional right away if you have any new eye symptoms."

I took a low dose for about 4 weeks, my headaches went away, I lost 2 lbs and began seeing "trailers." My eye grabbed an image and overlapped itself. Thanks to my doctors warning I immediately stopped the medication. It is now about 3 months later and I only see "trailers" when I am really tired.

For those of you who don't know, Topamax is an amazing drug when it works. It was developed for seizures, Migraine prevention came later and weight loss is a common side effect.

Best of luck.

I wonder if you need a small unfill? That might help you to be able to eat more filling foods like chicken and veggies. Not sure, but it might help. People with too tight bands often end up gaining weight.

That's what I told him but he said my results say everything is flowing fine. N I told him of course the barium is gonna go down fine it's liquid.. iv been really arguing with this guy n he won't give me a referral yet so I'm screwed n I can't afford out of pocket and he's the only doctor covered in my plan that I can get to.. but I Def think I need an adjustment

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
