Pre Op Diet starts tomorrow.....Nervous & Excited!

Recommended Posts

Well tomorrow is the day that my journey will start. I am beginning my pre op diet with my surgery scheduled for Oct 27th. Originally scheduled for Nov 3rd but the doc had to move a bunch of us around and I was one of the ones that got moved. YIKES!!

I started this whole thing back in Jan 2014 with a trip to my general surgeons office to see about getting my ventral hernia taken care of. After talking with her in great length she suggested the vertical sleeve for me. She said since I seem to be able to loose the weight but not keep it off for long periods of time that this might be an option for me. She wanted some of my weight off before she operates on the ventral hernia, it seems to have a very hard and long recovery time.

So when I got the info from my bariatric doc that my insurance required a 6 month doctor supervised diet I was almost relieved to have time to wrap my head around everything. It seemed to be happening so fast. So now after all my research and homework I think I am prepared as I ever can be for something like this. Once all my pre req's were done my doc submitted to my insurance and I was approved in 5 days. I was totally and completely surprised it went that fast.

So tomorrow I start the journey into my new life. I thank God that I have the support of my husband, daughter and parents. I have some great friends in my corner too and these boards have been a God send also. So thanks to all who have helped me with your posts, you just never know how or who you may be helping when you post so keep it up!! I hope someday to be able to help someone too!!

I called my doc to make sure what it was because my pre op appt isn't till 10/21 at 3pm and my surgery is Oct 27th I wanted to get at least a week of the pre op diet in. My original surgery was scheduled for Nov 3rd but they switched me to Oct 27 and said it was fine to keep my pre op appt where it was. I think because they had to reschedule almost 20 people.

My pre op consists of two Protein shakes a day, 3oz of lean Protein, 1 cup veggie or salad with low fat dressing, and 1 cup fruit. I don't like vegetables so today I had a Protein shake for Breakfast, lettuce with 3oz of chicken on it with low fat dressing. dinner was a Protein Shake and I will have my apple in a little bit.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
