10 days post op - pinching & pulling feeling on left side

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. Well I am 10 days post op and I have struggled a little with the pain and the trauma this operation had on my body. I took a week off annual leave and ended up taking a few extra days off (sick leave ) as I really did underestimate the recovery time and trauma this op has had on my body. I'm 29 year old female and I have had 2 kids naturally with no pain relief so I guess you can say i have a high pain threshold and I'm not just being a sooky la la.. Lol

I was feeling ok I guess you could say today and I went for a short walk at the plaza. After returning home, out of nowhere this pain hit me on the left side like nothing else! This is on the left scar (the biggest of them all). It was like a pinching and pulling feeling like I was being stabbed from the inside out! When I hunch over it goes away.. Same when I lay down or sit. It's like it never happened. I stand up and it slightly comes back then it's there again! I started to get scared and called my GF who had the band done 1 1/2 yrs ago by the same dr as me. She knew exactly what I was talking about and said the exact same thing happened to her but only once. It went away for her over night but it was one of the worst pains she ever had and yelped so loud her husband freaked out!

Are any of you guys having or had the same pain/feeling?

If so what did you do about it?

How long did it take to go away

Do you have any tips or suggestions for me how to cope

Does anyone know what it is or what is happening to cause this pain?

It's not as bad now as it was a few hrs ago so hopefully this will only get better from here.

I would love anyone to comment if they know anything about this or have experienced anything like it :)

Xx

I would call your surgeon and talk to him about it. No matter what your friend or anyone else went through, you need to follow up. If you've got pain that damn near brings you to your knees, you need to let your doctor guide you.

I hope you feel better soon. I never had the pain you mention, but I can tell you that things get better. MUCH better!

It sounds like the sutures on your port are bothering you. Mine was very, very sore, and finding a comfortable sleeping position was a challenge!

But, the amount of pain you are having doesn't sound right at ten days out. I'd call the surgeon's office and ask.

Im 3 yrs banded, but if I remember right, the band is stitched to a muscle on the left side which still occasionally causes an issue with me, but nothing as bad as your pain, so yes I would call your Dr. to let him know , just to be safe. Yesterday, I was at Physical Therapy for a foot injury, the therapist had me bend a certain way and I definitely felt a pinch over my port. (Uncomfortable, but very noticable every time I bent that way !) So it does happen but call yourDr. anyway. Congratulations on your WLS, it just keeps getting better and better !!

I think I've had that pain you mentioned. For me it is the port. It was the most pain I had from the surgery. It hurts back when I reach for something, cough, sneeze, blow my nose, etc. I had to wear an abdominal splint for months. Got it at the pharmacy. It really saved me. I'm 8 months post op and still have pain there. My doctor told me he doesn't know why but he could inject anesthetic and some steroid to settle the inflammation. I haven't had that done yet. I find that each week the pain lessens. I hope one day it will be gone!! If I get sick and have to cough, I will definitely go for the anesthetic!

Doesn't sound right. Call your doc!

Worst for me was being blown up like a balloon. I normally have hi-pain tolerance but THAT was intolerable for me! Not even morphine touched it. Glad I will never have to do it again! :)

Do you think it's possible that some of the gas/air they blew you up with, shifted to the left, working it's way out of you?

Thanks everyone for your comments. Today I am feeling much better. I was planning on giving dr a call this morning anyway.. I thought I would ask on here due to his office closed at the time it started yesterday/evening.

I am so glad to have come across this app and know that there is support for us like this!!

I don't feel so in the dark about things. It's comforting to know :)

@@danni#L Sounds like port pain to me. The more we move the more we pull on the muscle that the port is attached to. I am over a year out and I still experiance some nagging pain once in a while in that area. The port is right at the site of where my waist band is and where my office desk sits so it gets it's fair share of bumping.

The more weight I lose the more pronounced it is and the closer I find myself sitting to the desk :)

Put an ice pack on the site when you are resting or going to sleep at night and take it easy to let your body heal. The port is attached to the muscle and it will generate some scar tissue over time but for me it's always been sensitive especially now as I work out more and do crunches and lifts etc. but I don't let that stop me from doing it. Eventually I know I will go in for a port revision and switch it out for the lower profile port. It;s one of my "goals" and rewards when I reach that weight!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
