How much was you self-pay ?

Recommended Posts

Hello there... I want to have the Sleeve surgery in the next month or so. Curious to know how much the self payers spent and the doctor who performed the surgery. My insurance will not cover. I prefer to stay in the states, but MX is an option. Thanks guys!

In Mexico the going rate seems to be $4500-$6500 including hospital and hotel stays, but not including plane tickets. You can get great surgeons in the lower end of that range, but I opted to go with the top end of the range in order to be 100% confident in my choice and I don't regret it.

Went to Obesity Control Center in TJ. Paid about $7200 for surgery, airfare, preop bloodwork, cardiac and nutritional consult, 2 months meds, 1 night in hospital and 4 nights at Marriott for me and my sister.

Thanks jamielogical. Dr. Ortiz is at the top of my list. Which doctor on the low end of cost would you say is a great surgeon in MX?

The cash pay price at my clinic is $9995. It's Weight Wise Bariatric Center. It includes your hospital stay up to 2 nights and a years worth of monthly follow up visit plus meetings with the dietitian and the sports physiologist.

Personally, I feel more comfortable going to someone I can actually see whenever I need anything. Not to mention the amazing staff that I can communicate with whenever I have a question (my dietitian was emailing me earlier and she's not even at work this afternoon).

The clinic here has a lot of things they do pre-op that I think are important to successful, safer surgeries. Even as frustrated and impatient as I am, I fully understand my surgeons reasons for requiring a specific amount of weight loss, support group meetings and the psych eval (all things even the cash pay customers do).

It's a personal choice and I know people not just on here who've gone to Mexico and done great. However, I'm more comfortable with using a facility that I can be at in a matter of hours if something were to go wrong.

Thanks angierue. I plan to research all recommended doctors and make a final decision. I agree with you about the requirements before surgery, very important! I appreciate your contribution to this topic. ;)

Dr Rodriguez seems excellent and practices at top notch full service MHC Certified hospitals which are the only facilities I would consider.memergencies do occur and one wants to be treated at a facility with the appropriate resources.

Thanks to you Rocky1, Dr. Rodriguez is on my list. :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
