With my CPAP (and i have adjusted it every way possible), I have to take pain meds before I go to bed or the headache wakes me up, then I have to take meds in the morning because last nights meds wore of and now my head hurts again. I was asked not to take any NSAIDS for 30 days prior to surgery. Guess who is having a great time with her CPAP tonight, ME

Here's the really good news, some patients go home from the hospital with completely normal blood sugar levels and a lot shortly there after. With any luck at all, your diabetes pills will be gone. I take Metformin. They are round and reasonable sized pills but I also purchased a pill crusher just in case

I take the extra release ones which can work differently after the op and can't take metformin when I did try it I was always getting sick. Also I have type 1 diabetes ATM I take 90 u of insulin a day went down a lot so far from using Optifast and cutting carbs but chances of stopping my diabetics are rather slim but if I can go to 1-2 injections a day compared to 5 a day would be great.

Just came home yesterday- and kinda wish I was still in our gorgeous comfy hospital with dilaudad on tap and no family drama. This liquid Vicodin barely touches the pain now when I walk- I'm calling the doc this am to ask for stronger meds because I want to walk but it hurts so much it's hard to take full breaths. I feel bad about how much I'm relying on my husband and my mom. Guess this is just one of those super emotional moments that is typical post surgery.

On the bright side- for those of you worried about the drain- it's okay! It's not half as weird or gross as I was afraid it would be. It's kinda cool too because it helps to reduce gas pains a bit since it sucks out liquid and air!

Is anyone else feeling "gurgly"? There's all kinds of sounds and sensations happening inside my body now that weren't happening a couple days ago. I keep feeling like I have to burp and then it disappears!

But I can fart now which is like a blessing. Still no ????- it's been 4 days so stool softeners are next on my list.

Haven't had anything but Water for 4 days but no hunger or craving at all. Missed you guys!

Who's up next?

Look at us we are raving about hospital ice chips, we don't get out much!

Sure doesn't take much to make us happy does it? LOL

SBB, great to hear you are home. Sorry for your loss of meds on tap. Ruff, in the real world, no? I want me some.

But this too shall pass. Distract yourself as much as possible. In just a few days you will be feeling so much better, everyone says so. I know you are not hungry but that Protein shake will have to go in. You need it to heal.

We'll be here for you if you need us.

Hello all! Thank you for the fabulous laughs this morning. I was so out of it in the hospital I missed out on some fun ????

So here's some things I think everyone should ask for...that nausea patch! I can't begin to pronounce it but it's the most amazing thing ever. Behind the ear and can last 4 days. I'm a super nauseous person and laughed at the idea at first but I'm singing it praises now.

I was only in the hospital one day but walking right after a dose of dilauded was the best thing to do for me.

Mentally prepare yourself for gas pain. Seems inevitable. I got home and slept with a heating pad to the back and it really worked out. Never been so happy to have gas expelled lol

I'm ready for the entire October group to get started already!

Wow, I missed a bunch I'm doing better today than the last couple. I still have some nausea but it is slowly going away. I'm still waiting on that BM I'm supposed to have. It's hard watching people eat around you. 8 more days and I can move on to the purred stage. I finally lost my surgery Fluid gain, that's about it for now though. I'm just nervous I won't lose like I'm supposed to even if I'm doing what I'm supposed to. I guess the failure of the band is still in my mind. Sigh. I'm sorry I missed everyone's surgeries on the 6th and 7th, I hope you all are recovering well.

My doc tells me to cool it when I mention the idea that I won't lose ???? I think this is a legitimate thought but don't let it take ahold of you. It's a head game. Keep positive and we will succeed !,

Thank you for mentioning the heating pad. I'll go dig mine up and have it ready. I have a nice little list to discuss with my doctor at pre-op consult and Patches are on it.

Glad to know you are resting comfortably at home. We all have been a talkin' away wile you were in the hospital. Couldn't help but notice 490 conversations on this Topic. We are a nice and chatty bunch, and I LOVE IT!

@@dc0520 I am not sure what WLS you are thinking about but lets look at this in a nuts and bolts kind of way. In all Bariatric surgeries your stomach goes from the size of a football to the size of an egg. What do you think? Are you likely to lose weight under those circumstances? Sometimes a visual is all I need.

This is going to be easy peezy. The hard part for me is going to be how likely is it that I am going to like my new circumstances. I'll have to figure out a way of having fun because an egg sized "fun" is not enough.

I do have something to add to this, I did take a wonderful Special Education class in College that talked about classroom behavior modification. In order to successful change a students behavior you have to :

1)reward the new behavior.

2)replace it with something else.

For example, the student gets free time or a token for computer time after accomplishing class work. But also if you want a student to stop doing something annoying you have to give a replacement, like you can't kick the chair in front of you but you can kick the chair wide rubber band under your own chair. Think replace/reward. We probably should talk about this as a group. We needs some good ideas.

Oh wow--I should have stayed up later last night to join in on the hilarious conversation!!!! Love it--LOVE this group!!!

Thank you so much to those who have had their surgery, telling us all the little tid bits that will help us who are yet to go under the knife!!

Beni--You're such a hoot girl! You need to put some pics on here though, so I can put a face to your beaming personality!! :P

I used a CPAP also back before I had my lap band and I tell ya----it was the BEST thing to get rid of!! I used melatonin (and still do) to help sleep through the uncomfortableness (my made up word) of the stupid thing. I just recently started snoring again, and according to a recent sleep study, I only have mild apnea now, which didn't require the CPAP. YAY!!!

Ok---I'd better go get some work done.

Welcome back all of you gals who've had your surgeries! I hope everyone's pain get under control who needs that! (sorry, I can't remember names..)

Day 4 of liquids....I've got this.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
