Good luck to everyone getting surgery today! I have received my THIRD date. Oct 21. Three time's the charm? Let's hope so! Definitely starting to feel better. Still congested but that's getting better too.

Something else to consider. A fellow Bariatric Pal just found out her Iron was low at the 6 month blood work. Of course, this is something to try to avoid because it can cause anemia. I have spent my morning researching proper Vitamin intake and checked the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS.) This is the bible site for bariatric surgeons. After considerable reading, I found their guidelines for post operative requirements. Please take a look at this. You have to scroll farther down to Q5 to get to the area in question. I think it's worth reading since this is what the doctors read to design their post-op programs. Incidently it's what insurance companies follow for approval.

I do know there is this issue with how Iron supplements are poorly absorbed in general and by Bariatric patients specifically and taking Vitamin C with it helps bind it, but it is crucial not to have any milk products when you take your iron. You also can't have your Calcium at the same time (3 hours later). Because most of us are taking 2 Multivitamins at the same time once a day and probably not paying attention if there are any milk products eaten the time. I could see myself developing a problem in the future. Thus decided to share!

@beni... thank you so much for all this info!

Hiya all, been to see my surgeon filled all the paper worked and all paid and booked for the 25th October. I'm 31 weighting 161 kg Was told I'll only have 2 days liquid diet pre op. Which is pretty good I've been on Optifast past 4 weeks so far for 2 times a day getting tired of drinking those lol .

So good luck to everyone.

Congrats Alumace. Go figure, Australians are efficient. You managed to squeeze in before me (Oct 28th). I only have 3 day clear liquid diet. This is to clear the track, so to speak, before surgery.

@Jyoyonomore--Yep, same here. 7 days before, no ibuprofen. Luckily I haven't had another one. Hopefully I won't in the next week and a half. Wowzers, it was a nasty one!

Well it's day two of pre op diet. I got in 88 grams of Protein. 64oz of Water. Walked 15,000 steps. Weight at the end of the day 284.6. I started in May at 303. Surgery 6 days and counting.

Whoohoo!! Good job!! Dang it, I keep forgetting to charge my fitbit up so I can be counting steps! I'll have to put a reminder in my phone or something, LOL. We went on about a 2 mile walk last night, felt great!! You've lost a lot already, way to go!!

@Alumace--Good idea to download some movies! I should do that. Hospital TV is usually pretty minimal. ^_^

Congrats on your surgery date!! I'm the 20th.

Karen--Welcome back! So glad to hear you're doing so well! and off pain meds, whoohoo!!!

Are you still on a liquid diet then?

I don't know why but I am on pins and needles about all the gals in our group who had surgery already. I feel like the mother duck looking for her ducklings. I constantly check in looking for updates. It's kind of silly because I am not getting any work done.

That's ok everyone always feels better knowing they can have someone to talk their problems too. I tend to bug ppl a lot like ringing my friends a lot even if it's not about health related etc just a good chat and laugh can do wonders.

Hi Beni,

Had surgery yesterday. Everything went well. I have a bad reaction to pain meds so lots of Benadryl for me. Everything has been ok except for the gas. It pushed up under my diaphragm and I could not even breath. I was crying so bad. Gas still there but everything else going well. Just ate a Popsicle.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
