What is everyone NOT going to miss after sleeve?

Recommended Posts

I won't miss all of the things you have all listed above - especially the risk of diabetes and heart disease, which run in the family.

What I'm greatly looking forward to is

- being able to cross my legs!

- being able to run around with my grand kids!!

- being able to buy clothes off the rack in ANY store!

- being able to wear dresses shorter than maxi length because I'm no longer ashamed of my fat thighs and calves!

- buying a great pair of boots (or two) and zipping them up over my calves!

- being happy with that person in the mirror!

I'm certain there will be a hundred more moving forward. :0)

I agree, I won't miss all of the above either.

-I won't miss the "fat dimples" in my extra chin , that also are enhanced by dark shadows when pictures are taken of me in daylight...

-won't miss laying on beach in south florida, trying to tan my big tummy by pulling my fat girls bathing suit top up to the bra and scaring small children when I do so ????

-won't miss only having 1- 2 positions available during "intimate moments" with hubby...

- won't miss moving stomach out of way to shave legs n such...

- I do miss wearing cute heels to work, and want to fit cute fall boots that zip all the way up my calves...

List goes on!

Accidentally bumping my toddler over with my butt! HAH.

I really don't have any other things.. except hopefully not feeling so out of place.. although I really don't. I'm pretty active and everything already. I don't really sweat that bad, cause I work out anyway.. but sweat doesn't always go away!

I'm not going to miss bumping into walls, worrying about fitting into chairs - especially airplane seats, having to shop at plus size stores and so much more! What about you?

What are you going to try as you get smaller? I want to try rock wall climbing!

I don't miss being a slave to food. I don't miss the cravings and the need to pile a ton of food on my plate.

I don't miss the huge portions I used to eat.

This has been the best thing ever for me. Even though I am losing slowly, I am so happy with my decision.

GOOD LUCK!!!

I won't miss being embarrassed to chaperone my kids field trips.

" Kids/adults staring at me like I'm a circus animal"

" The pain in my knees

Wearing black all the time

avoiding stripes or bright colors

The list is endless lol

I will not miss holding my breathe because I can't breathe when I tie my shoes!

I will not miss my DDs, unzipping pants before I sit down to take off my shoes, and tugging my big shirts down every few minutes. I will not miss sleepless nights, waking up congested with puffy eyes. I will not miss pain in my feet and knees despite orthotics. I will not miss dieting as a part time job. I will not miss the look on people's faces when they measure me with their eyes before a hug, and the awkward side hugs to avoid my chest.

I will not miss the shock of myself in photos.

I will not miss sweating. I swear I sweat in any store like I just ran a marathon, like running down my face sweat. Even in below freezing weather. It's embarrassing.

Yessss. Me too!

I will not miss:

wearing bike shorts under every skirt or dress, even on the hottest days

worrying what I'm teaching my daughter about food and nutrition

worrying about spilling over to the adjacent airline seat / bus seat

not being able to cross my legs

paying more for uglier clothes

hating the way I look in almost every photo taken of me

worrying about debilitating/deadly weight-related illnesses

I will miss:

really enjoying my food / food as entertainment (I can't lie)

having a lot of weight to throw around in contact sports

being mostly immune to street harassment

Probably a million other things for the first list that I can't think of...

I will NOT miss holding my breath when I tie my shoes. I will also NOT miss my pants feeling like they are cutting me in half.

I am not going to miss avoiding sporting events, concerts or shows because I can't fit or sit comfortably in the seats. I am not going to miss shopping for plus size clothes and I am definitely not going to miss hiding in my house during the summer!!!

Everyone seems to have hit on all the things really... but my list for the sake of science... :D

1) Getting tired walking 20 feet.

2) Sweating!

3) The judgmental looks. Hate that people think they know so much about me based on one data point.

4) Bathroom "issues"

...and lastly... I'll still fly First Class (I'm a CEO, it's how I roll) but maybe I'll actually ENJOY it for a change!

Everyone telling me how pretty my face is but if I would only loose some weight.

Jesus... do people actually say that to you? How horribly disrespectful.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
