Recommended Posts

I know this topic was started a while ago. but I can;t seem to find it. I'm having Surgeyr Tuesday the 16th. ((I am SUPER nervous))

What have/are you all taking with you for the hospital stay? How long have your Doctors guestimated you will need ot stay? (( I'm no t the type of person who enjoys not being homeso I am going to be chomping at the bit to get out. I'm hoping I will only have to stay one night but I am hearing its usually two :( ))

Suggestions on how to keep from climbiong the walls?

Side note - I've never had any kind of surgery before or stayed in ahospital.. or had stitches ever...

I stayed two nights and I think that was just right. I brought a change of clothes, slippers, some magazines, and lip balm. Well, I brought more than that, but that was all I ended up using. As for passing the time, I slept quite a bit the day after surgery. When I wasn't doing that, I walked the halls, watched TV or read my mags. I was out by 9 am the next morning.

I was in 24 hours, wore my pjs to the hospital and home they were stretchy and comfy. I brought a small pillow for my tummy to get up from seated position, they gave me a belly band and slipper socks, some people bring gas x but they gave me something for gas after. Chap stick, your mouth will be very dry and they should give you some of those swabs to rinse your mouth. Took my phone charger other than that between nurses coming in every couple hours sleeping and walking I didn't have time to get bored... good luck

I took a big bag loaded with everything I'd seen recommended including slippers, a robe, change of clothes, magazine, etc...

In my program they told us repeatedly that sleeve and RNY required 2 nights in the hospital and band was outpatient.

In reality, I had surgery at 7AM and was released the following day (they said I could go at my 7AM checkup, but it took me most of the day to arrange a ride as we'd planned for the following day).

What I ended up wanting/needing was my chapstick and cell phone. The hospital supplied toothbrush/toothpaste. They had robes and slipper socks (I went in wearing a 5XLT and size 15EEE shoes, so size variety was no problem). They supplied everything I needed for a shower. And I was in no mood to read, so I watched a little TV in between the walks and nurses checking on my vitals.

Bottom line - you won't need or want much.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
