Looking for Hamiltonians

Recommended Posts

Just downloaded this app, instantly went looking for an Ontario group and found you guys! I'm in Hamilton and just had my RNY at St. Joes last week (April 20). Doing well so far.

@@looking_forward

I don't know if the people from this thread are still around, but I'll talk to you!

I'm not exactly a Hamiltonian, but I am from St. Catharines originally, so just a hop east of you. In fairness though I'm not even there anymore as I'm currently residing in North Dakota, but I just felt compelled to reply to someone so close to home. ????

Congrats on your surgery! I'm glad your recovery is going smoothly so far. I myself had RNY in January, so if you have any questions or just want to chat, I'd be happy to oblige. Take care.

Hello, I am from Hamilton, I have my orientation appointment on this coming Monday. My only problem is that they didn't say on the message where the appointment is or leave a call back number, i tried calling my referring clinic and they couldn't tell me where the appointment is, the number for the bariatric center the message said they would get back to me in 2 business days which doesn't help when my appointment is this Monday. So can anyone tell me where the orientation appointment is? Is it at the west 5 campus or at the downtown hospital.

I'd just call st. Joe's directly- not the bariatric unit. They should still be able to tell you. Orientation is at the downtown campus on James st south. Good luck!

Hello Everyone

I download the app and the first support thread I see is in Hamilton. Perfect!! I'm in Dundas. And then I see it's from 2014.

I'm pre-op, I've been working my way through the appointments and have been told to expect surgery in October. I'm looking to connect with people at any stage of the process.

@@itsgonnabegreat I've attended two of the support group sessions so far, had to miss the June meeting. Planning to make it this month. The group isn't quite what I imagined it would be, but I've learned at least one thing each time, and they say those who attend have a better rate of success long term. I figure 90 minutes a month isn't too much to ask for.

@@mebal I've never been much of a gym person. I stuck to "gentle walking" for the first eight weeks per the clinic's direction. At this point I'm walking whenever I can (the goal being at least once a day), swimming as often as my schedule allows, and dancing around the house, part for exercise but more for fun!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
