Can't tolerate artificial sweetners

Recommended Posts

I can not use aspartame or many of the artificial sweetners. Is the reason not to have sugar just because of the calories?

Yes and it causes dumping in some people. Personally I use sugar just a lot less and avoid artificial sugars. Why get healthy to put that crap in your body.

What is dumping?

Dumping Syndrome – Few people who have vertical sleeve gastrectomy experience "dumping syndrome" after eating sweet, sugary, or fatty foods. Symptoms of dumping syndrome include gas, cramping, diarrhea, and sweating. Usually sugars are digested slowly in the stomach and are passed into the small intestine. Because your stomach is bypassed the sugars are instead being flushed rapidly into the small intestine, causing the symptoms of dumping syndrome. Although dumping syndrome is unpleasant, it is not dangerous and usually goes away in about one hour.

For me dumping is limited to rapid heart beat only.

Wow, now that's not somehting I wish to experience! I guess it's bring on the aspartame, a vicious poison in it's own, but less agrivating to the stomach. Thanks for the info!

I try to stay away from sugar for the calories because it doesn't cause dumping which can be just as hard when you can eat everything. However only twice I had rapid heart beat from Peanut Butter.

I don't really have a NUT, I'm going to Mexico so there's really no pre-op work done.

If your NUT was like mine they won't accept that you can't do artificial sweeteners, even after telling her that my urologist said NO. The six months I was required to see her I only lost four pounds due to the stress she was putting me under.

I don't have a NUT. I can drink it, I just hate the taste and it gives me horrible headaches, as well it's probably one of the most unhealthy things you can put in your body. But I will drink it as long as I have to, then will switch back to a healthier sweetner, even sugar is much healthier. I think having to ingest aspartime is going to be the hardest part of this entire process.

Are you able to tolerate truvia or stevia? I cant have artificial sweeteners either so I made my own Jello, pudding, and Popsicles using truvia. For Protein I use jay Robb Protein Powder.

I've tried them, I can still taste the weird taste, but it's something I might have to try. I work in remote locations away from home so it's going to be tough to make my own anything, but where there's a will there's a way! (there's got to be a way). Where did you get the Jay Robb powder from?

I ordered Jay Robb directly from their website but I have also seen the vanilla and chocolate flavors at GNC.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
