My iv was removed Wednesday and I have a swollen, red patch in my upper arm. Did anyone else have this? It's quite painful to the touch.

Describe the red patch a bit more. Is it in the same spot where your IV was? Above it, below it? Do you have a fever? Is it painful?

It can happen after an iv has been in. The harsher the med they infused the worst it can be. I get infusions every 3 wks and I get it alot. The vein gets hard, red, hand swells and it feels like someone took a hammer to it. In fact that's how my hand is right now from my last infusion. Dr said ice it. IF the redness spreads and the site gets more painful (think unable to move your arm) then it could be an infection. I had that 2 months ago. Not pleasant.

My iv was in my forearm and the red patch is just above the elbow, where Fluid would pool if my arm stayed crooked and my hand stayed a little elevated. Been using a hot pad as I slept hut it has not helped.

Check with your doctor. If you can't go in for an appointment, take a pic of the area and email it to them. They can take a look at the pic and can advise you better.

Phlebitis is common from an IV. The treatment is typically heat, elevation, and NSAIDS (the latter of which you can not do). The heat causes vasodilation (increased blood flow) and allows your body to begin healing the inflamed area.

Please check with your doctor. Leave a message with the nurse letting them know what's going on, and that you can email a picture of the reddened area.

Best wishes to you.

My dad had the same thing happen when they removed an IV from his arm. We spent the entire day changing out cold compresses for warm compresses about every 15 minutes or so. It was a long process, but it worked. Hope you feel better soon!

I had IV in my right hand. The vein collapsed and the IV Fluid went into my hand. It was quite swollen and sore. I actually have developed a blood clot in my right hand vein so I am taking meds for that. it's getting better. ;)

I put a call into my dr but still haven't heard back. I don't think I have fever but not sure how to treat it in the meantime. Trying an ice pack now

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
