JULY 2014 SLEEVERS GROUP

Recommended Posts

I had my Sleeve surgery done on July 21.. And the first night was very painful due to the gases!!! I took a gas-x thin melt and it helped a lot!!! I am at the end of week 2.. Eating less than 500 calories a day! Its been challenging but tolerable! I get full on 4 oz of soup! I make my own chicken Soup and blend it.. Those broths you buy at the store have a lot of sodium.. I started with 228 and I am down to 209

I think the focus should not be only the scale but also non-scale victories NSVs....I fit xyz better, I'm able to A longer, etc. also remember you may not be losing weight but you may be losing inches. Take measurements and do comparisons. Also I think slower weightloss helps with your skin elasticity and having less sagging skin. Be positive the surgeries work and you're doing your part....it will all fall in place!!

I know at this point you are dying to eat but don't rush it. Stick to the diet they gave you. It's really early to be eating, your stomach is still healing. You put weight on because they pump you with gases and liquid.

Hey everyone! I am new to the site and new to the Sleeve. I had my surgery on 7/30 and it is now 8/1 so I am 2 days out. I have a few questions. did anyone gain weight after the surgery? I started my 2 week liquid diet at 421. the day of surgery I was 399 now 2 days out and I have put a few lbs back on. it makes no sense to me. the only thing I have had to eat was 1 egg and 2 oz of chicken puree. is this normal? I have been drinking my Water like I am supposed to, today I had about 56oz of the required 64oz.

did anyone else experience this as well?

I am following the diet my doctor told me too. I was a little curious about it too. I read many other posts where people would wait 2 weeks before eating (puree) after surgery. In the hospital, day after surgery, Breakfast was liquid then lunch was scrambled egg. I was told to start my puree diet when i got home. Today i had 1 egg and a 2 oz chicken puree. I had 2 protien shakes and a bunch of water. I am feeling good about it. Just hope i am doing it correctly.

I was sleeved July 1 and doing well. I lost 10 lbs pre-op and 15 more in the first two weeks. I have been stalled for almost three weeks. I lost 2.5 in the last few days but it is frustrating. I see my Nut and Dr next week and am hoping my stall will be over soon. I think what is frustrating is that I believe I am doing everything right. I haven't even eaten out once. I cook all my food. I must say I was a nervous wreck prior to surgery and feel great this last week and a half just tired due to working long days. I am excited for everyone on their journey! Best of luck.

I was sleeved July 21st. I'm down 13lbs since surgery and 43lbs all together. I'm having a hard time with eating the smallest thing fills me up for the day. I feel like I'm doing this all wrong I can't get in the Protein and I'm still having trouble walking. Anyone else having these problems?

I struggled with a lot of the Protein Shakes. I found chike coffee one the easiest. You can get it on Amazon and mix with Water and it is not super thick and there are no chunks. I also have found Isopure unflavored mixed in Soups is good, just don't add too much you can go from fine to gross in no time.

For purée I blended tuna and low fat mayo, ate low fat ricotta cheese, blended chick peas with Water, lemon and some seasoning, mashed a sweet potato and put cinnamon on it but only would eat a very small amount and them there is yogurt. One great trick I am doing now that you can do with puréed food is to take plain greek yogurt and mix in Protein Powder and/or a little but of PB2(dry low fat peanut butter). You can also eat low fat string cheese, and soft/scrambled eggs.

It seems different hospitals/doctors have different post op methods....for the 1st 2 weeks after surgery I'm on liquids and I can have Jello and really runny/watered down oats or cream of wheat. Then on to puréed foods for another 2 weeks and then solids. My biggest issue is Protein intake....everything tastes nasty. I can tol orate the Isopure pineapple/orange/banana flavor but even that takes forever to drink because I don't like it. My other liquid input is good.

I couldn't stand Protein Shakes, mixes or broth after surgery. The smell turned my stomach. I was advised to so my best and ensure I got in my liquids. I agree we all have different post op procedures.

Hi y'all I was sleeved on the 14th and so far have lost 21 pounds. I also look at the scale and think ... shouldn't I have lost more today? but the reality is this kind of weightloss is dramatic and exactly what we were looking for when we decided on weight loss surgery.

REmember that normal rates of weightloss with dieting and exercise are 1-2 lbs loss per week.

I see us all on here 2-3 weeks post surgery stating weight loss in the 14-30 lb category and remarking that we'd like to have lost more by now. Dudes! We are rocking the weight loss! Be patient and stick with the liquids or soft foods wherever you are and the weight will *continue* to just fall off of us. This is good people!

I agree I was sleeved july 28th and will be thrilled if the 10lbs I gained in hospital is gone in the next 3 weeks. Remember slow and steady wins the race!

I had the sleeve July 1st in Mexico. I've been healing well. Except I'm four weeks out and I still don't get any where near my Protein goal. I can't stand Protein Shakes and anything really mushy just makes me nauseas. Did anyone else have this problem? I'm nauseas most days but that is my only symptom. Thanks

Have you tried making your own Protein Shakes? Might be worth a try.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
