Recommended Posts

I am 6 days post op and I have been shitting alot!! My doctor said to call him if i have more then 3-6 liquid stools in a 24 hour period and today i have had 7 i don't want to go back to the hospital and my kids don't want me to go back is this normal?? Anything i can do to change it. I have been able to get liquids and Protein in. Not all my protein but I am up to 2 shakes a day as of now and my urine is still pale yellow so I am not dehydrated. I know this is so gross but I don't know where else to ask and I don't want to call my doctor over something that he is going to tell me is normal or related to not getting in enough protein.

Hi , are you using milk to make your Protein Shake? If u are , you should change to lactose free and make sure you are using gas x and some thing for the acid in your stomach , and you should call your Dr and ask him for a prescription for the acid meds , and having diarrhea does not mean you have to be hospitalize so please don't suffer call your Dr that's what he is there for. You are only prolonging your recovery cuz the longer you wait the more dehydrated you will get , you should also asked him if you can drink pedialyte to replace the electrolyte you loss . Good luck and congratulation on the new you .

I had the same problem and it was because of an Iron supplement they gave me. When I went for my 1 week follow up they told me I could stop the Iron. Not only did I have diarrhea constantly but it was black....freaked me out! LOL

no turns out it was my gas drops but the Protein Drinks that i get are ones that my doctors office sells and its in the form of a Soup or shake that you add Water too... thats all i have had since surgery and i am so sick of it already i want to try others but my doctor ( because he gets a pay out for pushing the product they sell ) is really strict about only there stuff for the 1st two weeks so on the 4th i can start my soft things like cottage cheese and yougurt and I cant wait!!!!

You sure this isn't just a side effect of the anesthesia?

I had the same issue. I went to the doctor. It could be 3 things. You could have C - diff which is a stool culture, small leak - check to see if you have fever or your stitches are not extra hot, or it could just be your body getting rid of everything. I would double check with the doctor so you do not get dehydrated.

I had same issue and doctor had me do immodum AD liquid. Hold nose as it is gross, but makes you feel better.

Hope this helps as I has the same issue for 10 days after.

I too think it's a conflict of interest.

Is it just me or does anyone else think it's a conflict of interest for a dr to be selling supplements and insisting you purchase them? Not cool.

Definitely a conflict. I know my bariatric office is going to start selling, but as of now, they don't require that you use the products they carry, it's more a convenience thing for people that don't like shopping online or have trouble finding the right stuff in stores. I would definitely have a problem if I were forced to take a certain brand, because post-surgery, I couldn't tolerate most of the things I enjoyed pre-surgery...most of the shakes were far too sweet.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
