Dr. Alberto Aceves a well known and respected Bariatric Surgeon from Mexicali was killed in a tragic plane crash

Recommended Posts

I Emailed Nina (part of his office staff, and who many of us talked to who went to see Dr. A) last night and she replied this morning - unfortunately also a confirmation.

Ugh.

I emailed Gaby last night....so sorry that this is indeed a reality.

"This is true... and a great loss for all of us worldwide !

His son ( that was flying with him ) is safe
We appreciate your kind words...
He really loves his patients !
We are all very sad
hugs from all of us
Gaby"

I'm so sad that the reason I came back to MBP to post is due learning about the passing of my amazing surgeon, Dr. Aceves. He was such a nice man and a talented surgeon.

I cannot speak on the relationships that those who do not do Medical Tourism build with their medical team locally but for many of us who venture away from our "home" it feels more personal.

Dr. Aceves helped me to change my life and made a terrifying decision easy and comfortable,

My sympathies to those who's lives are effected by this loss.

This is so sad and shocking. Dr. Aceves did my sleeve over three years ago.

My heart goes out to everyone who knew this man personally, and to those in the bariatric community whose lives he impacted in many positive ways.

That is such tragic news! He made a huge difference in the lives of so many people--just on this board alone! My condolences to his friends, family and patients. R.I.P., Dr. Aceves!

He was his assistant in every surgery for years. He assisted Aceves on me a month ago. I went to Dr Aceves for his artistry in how he does the sleeve, I would choose Dr Beltran now because he will be doing it the way he did it with dr aceves for so long. It's still so shocking :-(

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
