June 27th surgery date, and hepatomagaly

Hi all, I'm actually all set for my sleeve on the 27th--1 week to go! I'm worried about getting my liver shrank in time. I blew my diet a couple times last week and I'm committing to a full liquid diet for this next week, which is way more strict than my doc is requiring, but I'm afraid it isn't enough. Here's the reason: I was in an accident last year that required several CT scans and the abdominal one showed hepatomegaly (which means big fat liver). I didn't get any further info on it, but I'm afraid the dang giant thing is going to ruin everything! I've been drinking liver detox tea hoping that would help (and I did check to make sure there wasn't any blood-thinning ingredients - there isnt). I'm also trying to avoid tylenol but I'm having screaming bad cramps and that's the only pain reliever I'm allowed. Anyone else have hepatomegaly before surgery? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

My doctor told me that the liquid diet we go on prior to surgery is to shrink the liver so if you are following it, your liver should be smaller.

Does your surgeon know about your past hepatomegaly? If not, I would share that with him/her just to be sure that you're taking the right precautions in prep for surgery. If so - then you should be good if you are following the pre-op diet. I wish you well!

I had the same condition and during the 2 week preop I lost 15 lbs. my surgeon was very pleased and said that my liver was smaller and no problem to lift.
