My surgeon didn't even come in to see me in recovery!

The hospital called, they were incredible, but even when I called to schedule my two week post op appointment the receptionist knew I'd just had the surgery and didn't even take the time to ask how I was doing.

Gosh, I would think the dr would have at least stopped in to see you. Could he/she have came in when you were still under? I would think that the drs office would have asked you too! The girls at my drs office are very friendly - I hope that doesn't change once they get my money! How are you doing? How many days has it been? I haven't had mine done yet, is it really bad after the surgery?

My doc requires 1 night and requests 2 nights in the hospital. He came to see me in recovery as did the anesthesiologist. The asst. surgeon stayed with me until I was awake along with the recovery room nurse. Then my doc came to see me three times daily while I was in the hospital, he gave me his cell phone number that he keeps with him 24/7 in case I had questions or problems after I was discharged.

Medical care is MUCH different in Mexico. The way we used to treat people in the 40s and 50s is how they still do it. It's like night and day from the US.

I'm looking for a plastic surgeon now and Mexico is the ONLY place I will go. The US isn't even an option and I am FROM the US and I am in medicine.

BTW... my doc is Alberto Aceves in Mexicali, Mexico. Who is your doc?

I had Dr Thomas Brown in Denver. I'm not impressed thus far, except for the fact that I didn't have any complications and am healing nicely. But it's been a week and I haven't even gotten so much as a how are you call. They didn't tell me about gas, about feeling hungry, shoulder pain, nothing, which is why I love this board so much! :confused:

Doctor came to see me post op. Nurses were checking my vitals. I stayed in the hospital recovery about 8 hours until I could breath strongly. Doc was in touch with my husband the whole time.

My Doc didn't come in to see me, but then I didn't expect him to. His offsider did and so did the anethetist. I was happy with the after care I received.

Sounds like you feel a little like a part of a herd of cattle being shoved through the OR doors. Herd 'em in, herd 'em out. I'd talk to your doc and let him know how you feel.

My doc did go over all the lectures with me, three times. The day before surgery, the morning of surgery, and while I was in the hospital again the next day. He explained how much food to eat, how to chew, when to eat, what to expect, the works. By the third time he went over it I had it memorized. :phanvan I could say it with him.

I'm pretty lucky, I live in Arizona and my doc is 3.5 hours away from me. I'm going there this weekend, as a matter of fact, for a fill.

There are horror stories from folks that went to Mexico and the US. Just like the US - one has to research the heck out of what they are doing. They have to research WHERE they will have surgery. Is it a doc's clinic or is it an actual hospital. Is the doc Inamed certified? Do they do a follow up barium swallow before releasing the patient to ensure band placement and stoma size? What pre-op diagnostics will they do, what is their reputation, do they have a follow up care program, there is much to research REGARDLESS of country the procedure is done.

I knew everything I needed before I made my decision on Dr. Aceves. If I had it to do over again I would do the very same thing.

Does your doc have an egroup? A place where he lists all needed info such as post op diet, example menus, things that can happen? Maybe the reason he doesn't list all the info is because he has it available on line?? Just a thought. Mine does and he has a yahoo group for patients to communicate with one another.

My surgeon (and his assistant surgeon) came to my room about 3 hours after surgery, and then popped his head in again about 10 pm as he was leaving the hospital for the day. He came back again about 8 am and that's when he said I could be discharged. I saw him 6 days later at my first post-op appointment. He is awesome. But I have to say that most of my nutritional info came from a nutritionist.

He told me I was his 'favorite patient' so far, because things went so well. LOL.

I haven't had any calls from the hospital or surgeon but was given a number to call 24/7 if I had any questions.

WASaBubble butt's Dr. didn't spend all that time with her just because he liked her-----(!!!!!)-----he did the same with me, and my husband was in the room!!!!

I too used Dr. Aceves, and he was very attentive, as was the hospital staff, and his practice staff. His coordinator, Yolanda, all but moved in with us---before I could even think about asking to see someone to ask a question, they were there. It was a great experience.

As for not hearing from my Dr. yes I would contact him directly and inform him of my disappointment. And let him know on this board you have heard of other Dr.s who are much more involved in patient outcome. Maybe it will trigger his sense of comptetition!!! Doubt it, American surgeons are a pompous bunch as a general rule (my Uncle included in that!). My fill Dr. is nowhere near as caring or compassionate as my surgeon was. Hmmmmmm another Dr. Brown in Colorado----you think THAT is the issue???!!!!

I agree, American docs don't compare to Mexican docs. I am looking for a plastic surgeon and I have it narrowed to three docs but I haven't done all my research yet.

Dr. Sobranes in Tijuana, Dr. Bello in Mexicali, or Dr. Crespo in Tijuana.

Dr. Aceves suggests Sobranes for body lifts and Bello for everything else. But I've been in communication with Crespo and I have to say, I absolutely adore him. I'll copy/paste some emails between us and PM you. I think you'll see why I'm so impressed. But again, I haven't researched any of them well yet.

My surgeon did come and see me after surgery, I had to spend the night in the hospital though, but he didn't call me.

I had to go see him 1 week after surgery and still continue to see him. I think he is very knowledgable and I feel safe with him, but he is lacking in bedside manners.

I think every surgeon/doctor should take a course on bedside manners and show a little more concern for their patients.

I cannot give enough praise to Dr. Kirshenbaum. What an amazing guy.

I just called him long distance because I had a concern. He called me back in about 30 minutes. He is great for communication, great bedside manner. The team in Colorado made my 1500 mile journey worth every penny I paid.

My Dr. stopped to see me a few hours after surgery in my room, then again the following day for a few minutes. No call at home or anything. Saw him in person at 2 weeks post-op.

Chubbola, Congratulations on the non-smoking status. I know we are in this for the long haul! Its been 120 days smoke free for me!

I DON"T even think about cigarettes any longer.

Trying to replace the "addiction" of not smoking and not being able to stuff my face, with something else. Still haven't found it yet!

Well, I can think of one thing, but my husband would need to get a little blue pill!
