Who eats McDonalds post op?

Pre-surgery, ALL of my meals, every day, were fast food. McDonalds was up there in my top 3 favs! One of my 6 things that I committed to that I would stop "cold turkey" before my surgery was to eliminate all fast food. At my 2-1/2 year point (I'm now at 3 yrs), I began to allow myself a planned fast food meal up to 4 times a month, but only from Subway or El Pollo Loco. I often don't even eat it those 4 times in a month that I do allow myself.

I've had to be SUPER-STRICT with myself, though, from the very beginning of my WLS adventure, because I knew it would be too easy for me to fall back into my old habits. I am SO GLAD I was (and am) so hard on myself. It's still kinda strange to me that I do not miss all that fast food AT ALL. My blood pressure is totally normal since WLS, so I will never be willing to put that much sodium and fat back into my diet with fast food. I feel the same way about the carby junk food. If I allow it back into my life in the form of a cookie here, or a donut there, etc it is just too easy for me to start and then continue those bad habits again. I just don't trust myself to stay on the "straight and narrow" after not being able to do so for my whole life before WLS. Somehow, my crazy head has learned that eating healthy is what my body REALLY wants, and it doesn't care anymore that I don't feed it the fast food and junk. Go figure! I have found some great bari-friendly recipes that have become my substitutes for occasional snacky stuff so I never feel deprived.

Life is good for me without fast food--NEVER in a million years did I ever think I would say those words!!!

I didn't like McD's before my surgery, let alone afterwards. It's funny ur mentioning this right now. Last month, McD's came out with the buy 1 get 1 free of Big Macs. haven't wanted a Big Mac in about 10 yrs. Till I saw the commercial. About a week ago, my poor hubby had to get dressed (we're usually in bed by 9) at 9 pm (cuz it's only after 9) and go get me a Big Mac. It's been 11 mths since my revision and that 1/3 of a Big Mac was yummy, not at all like I remembered it from 10 yrs ago. Hope this isn't the start of something... But, since u asked, I DO eat most of my fav foods (incuding pizza, tacos, burgers, fries) occasionally and a very small amt (like I can eat about 1/2 pc of thin crust pizza, 1/3 of an In and Out cheeseburger, 2/3 of a Del Taco soft taco, about 8 fries-and this isn't all in 1 meal, btw! LOL). I luv my tiny tummy and I don't want to ruin it and it's affects by eating too much/too often. When u start sliding into a single digit pair of jeans, u really don't want to go back to a size 22 again... Good luck!

I ate a slider and 2 fries and it felt like I ate 2 double doubles from in and out. My little friend was in town and was really craving a burger. I eat really well and exercise regularly so I'm not going to stress about a craving here and there, especially since I don't have them very often.

I never ate McD's before surgery, so definitely not going to start post-surgery.

My weakness is Chinese food, and I do plan on eating it again (pouch approval pending), but it won't be that difficult to cut out the rice and fried won-ton to rid myself of most of the carbs in my favorite foods. I guess I'm lucky that I wasn't a huge pizza/fast food eater before.

My NUT actually approved pizza once I get far enough out. She suggests eating the toppings first and having a nibble of crust if I'm still hungry for it afterwards. Of course, I'm still a ways away from that point, and when the family had pizza the other night to Celebrate my son's graduation, I wasn't even slightly tempted. I was a little nauseated at the smell if anything. I hope it stays that way.

I miss the Breakfast. But I know it will not benefit my body like the good food I fix at home. I don't eat cow, I have not for 14 years. My choice only...dont like the taste.

Only very rarely I will eat a McDouble with no bun.....about half of it is all I need. I love, love, love thier coffee. A one dollar iced coffee in the afternoon is a nice treat.(Splenda, no sugar)

Yuck. When you went this far to get healthy and lose weight, why would you want to eat that? That's like putting ethanol in a racing car: complete waste. I don't have a taste for crap (and if I did I'd probably up chuck it) and don't want it now.

Same thing for sodas. I have a memento of one in the fridge. It is a source of pride that its sat for over 2.5 years and I've never touched it. It will stay in there until its busted and then I'll get another one to sit there. :)

Hi. I am 11 months post op and have lost 189 pounds. I have worked at McDonald's for 26 years now.only in the last 2 months have I tried to eat something there. I got a piece of grilled chicken one time ate about half of it and couldn't do any more. And one time a small cheeseburger and only could eat about half. Stomach starts to hurt definetly know you've had enough. I tried the fries but could only eat about 4-5, then I was done. Enough yo get full and satisfy. You do have choices though. It's all on what you choose. There's egg white delight for breakfast, grilled chicken, side salds, yogurt parfaits, apple slices, order a burger with ought the bun, an order of bacon by itself, an order of eggs add cheese.etc.. It's all on you, how you eat.not all bad, but beware of the smoothies, frappes. Etc, loaded with sugar.

i continue to thank everyone for your honesty. i know the work we have all done to lose our weight. however, we are all human and we have to be realistic too!

my two kids are happy and supportive and were really joyed to hear that eventually, many months into my recovery, we will be able to have an outing to their favorite place.

I just ate 2 White Castle sliders without the Buns. Yum! I also eat pizza toppings and Chinese food (mostly the meat and veggies, but also a teeny bit of rice or noodles). I didn't have surgery to be on a diet the rest of my life. Fortunately I was never a bread person anyways, so taking off the bun and not eating the crust is nothing new for me.

I've been thinking about this too. Realistically, at some point I will find myself without another quick option other than hitting a drive-thru.

My plan is...look for grilled chicken sandwich, no bun. A few places have chicken salads. Taco Bell could work if you got a steak or chicken quesidilla and only ate the inside, not the tortilla. Wendy's has chili or grilled chicken salad/sandwich. In & Out or Five Guys could be small cheeseburger with no bun. Jimmie John's would be GREAT because they will turn your sandwich into a lettuce wrap.

I'm working on a list for myself which I can refer to when those occasions happen.

In and Out and 4 Guys also have "Protein style" burgers which r wrapped in lettuce. Hubby gets these all the time. It's a great way to eat a burger, holding it in ur hands like an actual burger. Personally, I don't like lettuce wrapped burgers. It's not really a burger without the bun. I eat them occasionally, and I will eat about 1/3 of an In and Out. Hubby can eat In and Out about 3x a week. I like it about once a month.

i am 11 months post op and cannot eat a whole burger bun, even a small one. half is most. i could eat 5-6 fries. more than that, its too greasy. it could make some people dump. many people vomit if they eat fast food.

i have not eaten fast food in 20 years... just the thought of it makes me queasy, but that aside, when you are eating as little food as you do post op, you want to make it as high quality and nutritious as possible. that rules out fast food. we all know that.

mcdonalds and wls just dont go together. "treats" are a slippery slope. its better to just eliminate trigger foods.

Yeah I eat better than the vegetarians and still am showing signs of neuropathies, etc. from malnutrition. Eat good gang, its better than garbage.

This is why we had the surgery - to get healthier. A treat is something like fruit. Try Medjool dates. High in calories and tasty but Fiber also.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
