Fill Advice

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to say hello. I am afraid I have been a "lurker" for awhile now and haven't been posting, but I have been thinking positive thoughts for everybody onboard.

I have quick question. I have 4cc band (since Dec 03). I lost 35# and then had my band filled to 2.5cc. (In mid May '04) For awhile it was ok, but then I got really obsessive and ate very little. It made me a little spacy and nutty to say the least so my friends convinced me to eat a little. well that is an understatement, I can eat alot now - up to 2 cups of food probably and still not feel "full" or could at least eat more. I know a lot of it is emotional eating.

Needless to say I stopped losing and prob. gained a few so my weight's been fluctuating between 170-175.

Since it is 4 months later and no loss (even a little gain) do you think it would be foolish to have get the band tightened a little to like 2.8cc? At 3 cc, it was too tight and I felt like Water would not go down? but I am getting desperate, both to lose/reach goal and to get back "in control".

I thank anyone for there insight and wish the entire community all the best!

Hi Glitz99,

I cannot say that I am an expert on fills... I haven't reached my sweet spot yet. But, I have seen posts from others saying that as little as .1-.2cc can make a difference. I have also read where restriction has loosened up over time, so you very well may need a slight fill.

Have you discussed this with your doctor? Are you following all the band rules... Protein first, no drinking w/ meals, etc.? If so, then I would say a slight fill may help. If you are not following the rules, you might try that first to see if that helps.

Good luck,

Wouldn't hurt to try just a tad. You can always go back and have it taken out. Just don't let yourself be over-filled too long it's really dangerous to your band to be too restricted.

I'd talk to my doc.

Good luck to you!

Hi Glitz -

If you're eating because you are physically hungry, then a tad of a fill might be in order.

However... If you are eating for other reasons than physical hunger, you may want to work on that, since you've already been overfilled in the past.

I know it is hard to kick food out of the driver's seat of your life, but that is what we have to do to be successful. The band helps, but we have to take the wheel and make the choices about WHAT we eat, and in response to WHAT...

I don't know if any of that was helpful advice... I guess the bottom line is, if you are COMPLETELY honest with yourself about what you are eating, and in response to what, is a lack of restriction the problem? Or is the problem your relationship with food? Regardless of how tight you go, you are going to have to heal your relationship with food...

Good luck, and please keep us posted!

Another biggy is what kind of foods you are eating. Are you eating 2 cups of Soup? or 2 cups of something good and solid? Just remember that the band can't restrict things if they aren't solid.

I'm actually about where you are, plateau wise, and I'm at 2cc's fill and will be going in for another one shortly.

Best of luck. :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
