I'm three months post op and wondering how many calories a day should I be at? My doc and nut says just eat till satisfied and really won't give me a number. I've been stalled loosing weight for a month now.

You want a number......try 800 for awhile.

I am slightly ahead of you, I was sleeved on December 23rd. My goal is 800-1000 calories a day,. I usually eat less on the days I do not exercise and more o the days I do.

I stay under 850 unless I have a huge exercise day, then I might go up to 900-1000. I am 10 months out though. At three months out I was more in the 550-650 range.

I agree at 3month I was around 650-800 now at 10 months my Dr.suggest 800-1000 which I'm truly enjoying sometimes a little tooooo much

I'm 7.5 months post op & avg about 600/day. Long term my surgeon says 800-1000 once I reach goal & reach maintenance

My NUT didn't give me a number either and it's stressing me out. She said in wouldn't be able to eat that much but I am tracking and find it very easy to go over 800 calories even at 4 weeks out.

I'd like to be sure I'm following the right plan.

Does anyone know why the cal limits are so low for these plans? Is it for faster loss? Or will we really not lose at all on say 1200 calories which in normal calorie counting circles would be a minimum. I'm not looking to cheat I was just curious. Not that I can cheat without them giving me a number lol.

My NUT wouldn't give a number either, but I'm at about 650 cals/day 1 week after surgery. That's less than half of what I ate before the pre-surgery diet. I'll be very happy if I can stay satisfied on < 800 until I'm done losing.

I think the low calories is to make sure your body stays in ketosis -- where you're really burning fat. My surgeon told me to think of this as a sprint, not a marathon. That I have 1 year to get most of my excess my weight off, and her experience is if you don't get most of it off in a year, you aren't ever going to. So she said just push through it and know it's not forever at this level. So far the sleeve is keeping me from being anywhere near as hungry as I would have been before. I feel a bit shaky but not hungry. I want to ride this as long as possible...

Wow I have not heard the sprint thing. I wonder why that is. Maybe because behaviors are hard to keep up and I believe you kind of have to step up exercise as you go to get the same results.

It just doesn't make logical sense to me that you "can't" keep losing weight if you still have a calorie deficit.

At 3 months out I was consuming 600-800 calories/day. At 5 months out, both my nut and surgeons office have recommended 1000-1200/day and that's what I've been doing. They raised my Protein goal to 80 and increased recommended levels of exercise.

My rate of weight loss has definitely slowed but probably due my being closer to goal. So far I feel like I've gotten very sound advice from all of my providers.

My nut never gave me a calorie goal. Good thing since I'm one of those "rebel sleevers" and I've never once counted my calories since surgery. I tracked Protein and fluids for 2 months to make sure I was meeting minimals, but now I just wing it. I eat when I'm hungry and drink all day long. Eat Protein first and avoid carbs. Never give fat content or calories a thought. I still drink 1-2 protein shakes/day or I know I wouldn't be getting enough protein because I can only eat such a tiny amount. It's just me, but I could never do this thing if I was worried about tracking everything all day. There just seems to be a lot of posts on here from people stressed out over numbers... I've got enough stress in my life I don't have to create any more.

I did stall for a month at 6-10 weeks out and really didn't do anything special to break the stall. I knew it would end when my body was ready. Besides, I lost a whole pant size while not losing weight so it's not always about the numbers on the scale. I only weigh once a week, so I wouldn't notice a 3-4 day stall anyways. I was eating about 500-800 calories through 4 months post-op. I am not at almost 8 months post-op and most days I have between 800-1400. It depends on if I feel hungry. My weight loss is consistent at 1-2 pounds a week and I notice that on day where I eat more, I don't gain weight...I just don't lose the next day either. It's entirely what works for you. :)

Today is my 1 month surgerversary and I am averaging between 350-400 calories a day.

Is this why I have been in a stall for the last 3 weeks?!?!

I am almost sixth months out and I struggle with this constantly. I set my MyFitnessPal to 1,800 calories which I know seems much but I barely hit 900 calories. Reason why I set it high is see how much I am truly eating. On a non exercise day which is two days out of a seven day week I normally eat between 500-600 calories. On exercise days I get between 700-900 calories, which I will say is HARD! I find I loose more when I get between 600-800. My doctor explained it to me that our bodies need fuel to run and 500 calories a day is not giving it the fuel to properly run. I have been uber carb conscious as well and was getting 15-25 grams of carbs in a day which is a no-no for me I should be getting around 50-60 grams of carbs and 100-150 grams of Protein. Every nutritionist and doctor is going to tell you different. I guess my suggestion to you would to try to find that range that works for you that starts back up the weight loss. Also a stall is going to happen no matter what, your body is going to fight you because you had this extra weight on for a long time it likes it, it doesn't want you to loose it. I was stalled as well for a month at three months out...it was pure hell so I get it. Wish you the best! I hope my rambling helps a little :)

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
