POST-OP DRINKING AND EATING

Recommended Posts

I am three weeks out and on pureed foods. I will move up to mushy foods next week. I am wondering what are some of the favorite things ya'll ate and if you have any recipes so I can have more of a variety. So far I have been having my shakes (Isopure no carb), sugar free flavored water and any kinds of Soups and canned meats to pureed, along with sugar free ice cream, pudding, Jello and popsicles.

Refried Beans with cheese were a good starting point for me.

Learn to be very creative. Use greek yogurt or cottage cheese with unsweetened Jello powders for different flavors. Put chocolate Protein Powder and PB2 powder in yogurt for a great Breakfast that reminds you a little bit of a reese cup. Refried black Beans with a little taco seasoning and melted cheese is great. pureed chicken with alfredo sauce or marinara sauce and cheese is great. Pureed tuna salad or egg salad is also good. Instant potatoes with cheese is also very good and when you use powedered milk in it, it increases your Protein. Become a mixologist with those protein powders using jello powders and sugar free syrups as well as instant coffee to make some really great treats. Especially when you blend with crushed ice! Eating shoudl never be boring after this surgery because you sure don't automatically enjoy the food like you use to! Good luck and get creative!

mash up some cooked pinto Beans and put the cheese on that so that yo don't get the unnecessary fat from canned re fried beans.

I would say my advice is to keep your life simple. I have taken recommendations here and it did not work, because my tastes have changed so rapidly. If you keep the things you like stocked in the fridge, like cottage cheese (with SF Polaner jams), yogurts, Laughing Cow soft cheese, eggs, refried Beans, salsa, and other things, you can mix and match. I remember a lowfat homemade turkey chili at Christmas was my favorite meal for about 3 weeks lol. Now we are eating homemade guacamole, tabouleh, lentils, sauteed fresh fish, cole slaw, chicken or tuna salad, and see no reason to cook a meal because it would go to waste. As your tastes change, experiment. I was told at 3 months, no more shakes, that I was eating too much Protein which was not good for me. I have several cases of shakes, so don't overbuy. Also good advice is make sure you eat before you go shopping or to the grocery, and you will cut your grocery bill in half!

Psychoangel, my nut recommended Chef Dave recipes for Weightloss Surgery Success. I downloaded it to my kindle for less than 10.00 from Amazon. The recipes look amazing and so simple. Can't wait to try them out. Hope this helps.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
