June 2007 Bandsters

Hi, I know that it seems ages away but my surgery is booked for June 1st (7 weeks tomorrow!!) and I just can't wait so I thought I'd start a June 2007 thread... anyone else out there due for surgery in June???

I started my pre-op diet (Optifast) last week... thought I'd try and lose as much as possible beforehand as I've kind of been doing the last super thing for most of this year! It's supprisingly OK... first 4 days were hell but hunger seems to have gone although I still struggle with the bordem (head hunger) a bit.

KT

being banded 1st June 2007 in New Zealand

Starting weight 101kg, BMI = 35

Current weight 97kg, BMI = 33.5 (after 10 days on Optifast)

Goal weight 65kg, BMI = 22

Good morning

insub- I to appreciated all the pre opt tests I took this week. The lead Nurse Practitioner called me yesterday at 5, when I was leaving from work, I was worried as to what they found. She asked about my gallblatter because my billiruben( not sure spelling) was something?? She asked of symptoms, which I have none. She said she would talk to the doctor Tuesday. Any ideas from folks if this put a stop to surgery. I feel like, take that out too, maybe it weighs something! Also I am anemic, need to take my vitamens, which I knew.

This weekend was my first one on the preopt. Not having my glass of wine, salsa and chips or going out to dinner, was hard, but I did fine. I just have to get through the weekends which will be the most difficult, but maybe I will see how I need to change my patterns.

Suzzzie- Hang in there! The time will come. Don't give up. I know how frustrating that wait can be. I think the surgical coordinator hated receiving my emails, which I sent asking her questions, etc. Hope your weekend went well!

Janine

Usually elevated billirubin is due to the liver/gallbladder problems. I would have to know you other lab results like your AST or ALT to tell you more. I know that in my case if I were to have anything wrong with my liver/gallbladder that my surgery would be postponed for sure because my doctor personally does not like to take out gallbladders and put in lapbands at the same time because it increases the infection rate. I know if you do a search on this site you will be able to find out more information and ask others about this specific problem. Let me know if this helps! :)

Day 2 of clear liquids and I'm still alive... barely!

I read on here about a product called "any whey" that is also unflavored that you sprinkle in regular food. Is the Unjury unflavored really unflavored? Can you taste it at all?

Well, I'm in hell with ya Heather! This is WAY harder than I thought it would be!!!!! WAY HARDER!!!! I started my period today to top it all off!!!! Guess I should be thankful that it will be over before surgery and won't be back until I'm mostly recovered tho. But it sure makes being good SOOOO hard!!!!

I bought the "any whey" today! Just cooked a can of campbells chicken noodle soup, strained it, sprinked in the poweder while whisking, then heated up a little more, then it still needed a chicken bullion cube, but dang! It was like a warm bowl of comfort!!!! I didn't taste the powder and it's a nice change from the sweet shakes, popcicles and jello! It was $20.99 (that included tax), 30 servings, GNC. It has 17 grams of protein, 70 cals! Good stuff!

I had a major blow out with my 16 year old today (she'll be 16 June 12th actually). I know I'm hormonal and hungry, so that doesn't help. We usually get along VERY well. She's such a good kid, but now my coping tool, food, is gone...this is an eye opening experince to say the very least!!!

Welcome to all our new Junies

musicalmomma...

We are soooo right there together! We are getting banded on the same day... I need to lose 85lbs (as do you now!)... It's gonna be great to have somebody in the EXACT same situation to compare with!!!!

Are you on clears this week or any liquids? I'm on clears. No shakes allowed. I guess the any whey would be ok right now... but I'm really excited about it for post op when I can have cloudy stuff again...lol. Today hasn't been as bad as yesterday actually. I drank a full cal mountain dew this morning and it made me feel much better. I realized yesterday that all my food was sugar free... so except for the broth, I was getting virtually zero calories! I felt bad!

Well I am glad to see that I am not the only person struggling with the pre-op diet. I haven't cheated yet, but there has been times I really wanted to. It is hard when my husband and two kids are eating and I just have my shake to drink. I try to go into another room while they are eating. Only 8 more days of this until surgery and then who knows before I will be on real food again.

I have wanted to cheat so bad. Last night was horrible, but made it tru ok.

I sent my kids out to eat tonight...

I am getting my band on Wednesday...but I sure do wish I could just have a chicken breast...mmmmmmmm

I am ready to get in the operating room and get banded......

Well...everybody stay strong....I am off for a bike ride now

:)

Heather: I get to drink as many high protein shakes as I want (they gave me a list) and as many clear, sugar-free liquids I want. I think I messed up a little last night because I had a cup of tomato soup...it's kinda high in carbs. So, today I bought chicken and beef broth for some savory and hot variety. I have a RAGING headache!!! I know it's because I'm detoxing, but thank God, I haven't cheated! Oh the temptation!!!

Huntersmom: We feel your pain!! It IS sooooo hard not to cheat. When I diet, I cheat at will...but THIS is NOT a diet...I have had to keep reminding myself of those people that couldn't get their bands because their liver was too large, or the one's that had to convert to an open procedure because of an enlarged liver. I DO NOT wanna go there...so I'm taking it as it comes....the temptation is the worst for me mid-day. From 1pm - 6pm. Once I get past 6, I'm OK. But those 5 hours are super tough. Hang in there...we'll be banded and past post-op diet before we know it!

WOW! I leave for a few days and look what happens. :clap2:

Welcome to all new June bandsters. How excited are you all that in a month or less they'll be a new you?!?!?! :welcome:

Heather, thanks so much for the calendar. It makes tracking our dates so much easier.

I can not tell you how excited I am for those who will be banded this coming week. And I just KNOW you all are even more excited. :whoo:

May I make a suggestion? (If it's already been posted, sorry.) Take your measurements before surgery. Some of you are already in the "liquid weeks" so you might want to take them now.

I'm having mine done as I also want to see how many inches I've lost.

:)

Thanks Marie... I took my measurements yesterday.

Can't wait for them to go down!!!! Well, day 3 of clears, and I'm still kickin. Mom treated me to lunch at Sno Biz..lol. And I just got a quart of Miso soup at my fav Jap Restaurant for only $3.00!! I got 2 quarts! Also picked up some "Any Whey" at GNC that some of you have liked.

Well, I can say that I cheated today. I had some dough from a HUGE batch of cookies my sister was making. I know I'm going to H&*L in a handbasket. I am thinking of my liver obsessively and getting on track. Just thought I'd confess and also say how proud I am of everyone else!

Think I'll go for a walk!

XOXOX,

Toni

Hey all!! Just a word of caution with the "any whey" DON'T try to mix it in REALLY hot liquid...it's clumps and YUCK!!!! I had to pour out my broth it was sooooo bad! But I am still being 100% compliant to the liquid diet. Now that day three is almost over, it's getting easier. PHEW!

Well, my daughter and I went on a bike ride today and I think I over did it a little! We went 10 miles...it's such a beautiful day that we didn't want to stop! Now I am SOOOO sore!!!! Think I'm gonna take a nap. :notagree

Have a nice memorial day everyone!

Hello- I was just scheduled last week for a June 21 date. I am new to this forum and look forward to the support. I have decided not to tell anyone except immediate family, a best friend and my boss at work. I know it's silly but I have lost and gained back so many times I just don't want to face the rolling eyes from everyone. I also have seen and heard how others who have had the band at work have been talked about behind their backs.

Heather and other tickler experts!

I tried to go on tickerfactory.com and could not do the cut and past. I went down too the dbcode, http; and I could not get it to work or did not know the steps to cut and past the ticker! Helpppppppppp! If you could give me a step by step outline when I get to that point, I would appreciate it.

My husband did not know what I wanted either? Then how do you update it. Thanks for helping.

I lost 9 lbs! I need to post my glory:clap2:

Sorry for my double posting!!! I was not bragging at all, I am not sure what my computer issues are today! I may still have pinesol in my brain. I cleaned all day yesterday, scrubbed baseboards, windows, etc. I am trying to get my house in order for my sons wedding July 7. I figure I may not be able to do all the bending and reaching.

WELCOME!!!!!!!!!! ALL NEW JUNE BANDSTERS. 2bhealthy, most of us have done the yoyo dieting and that is why I think the band is for us. I to understand the eye roll. I really hate that, it makes you feel like you will fail before you start. But this time is for real and forever. We are going through to much not to suceed.

MusicalMomma I to have a headache this morning. Not sure if it is the diet, but I woke up with an almost migrane. I took some tylenol and it feels better already. Hang in there.

This weekend is hard not having a margarita and hanging on the porch on a holiday weekend, but I have been busy, which I plan to continue today.

Happy Memorial Day!

Becky,

What is AST and ALT? They did not say anything on the phone, to be honsest I don't know what they said, I only remember billirubin, symptoms and talking to the doctor. I really don't want to have my surgery canceled! That will stink big time. Are you a nurse?

I know there are other Junies who are nurses, any thoughts?
