INSUB - Your post got me thinking, and I went to researching again. I certainly don't want to make poor decisions with my body, nor perpetuate them to others. I really struggle to get my Protein in, and would prefer not to if my current info is incorrect.

I found this on the World Health Organization website, but I don't know the conversion ratios from kilograms to pounds. Do you know what 1 gram per kilogram of weight would convert to in pounds? I looked for a good converter on the net, but didn't see one.

It is evident that the recommended allowance for Protein (NPU 0.8) for adult men and women is 1 g per kg body weight per person per day, which is in line with the first internationally recommended allowance for protein needs of human adults proposed by the League of Nations in 1936
.

What you need to do is switch your body weight (which is now changing daily!) from pounds to kilograms - NOT mess with the gram/kilogram ratio. That is how the nutritionist figured I needed about 90 grams a day. (of course when I do this it comes out as about 152! There is NO way, thats gotta be unhealthy!!)

ANYWAY... Here is a GOOD TABLE that you can convert your weight from pounds to kilograms. THen just rememberto eat 1gram protein for every kilogram that you weigh.

Thank you, SUZZZIE! That is a fantastic tool you gave there...I couldn't find a decent one to save my life. And it does so many different conversions, too.

P.S. HA! TWO-terville! That one had me laughing out loud and I scared the dogs out of their naps! Never heard that one before!

No problem Stef!

OK, question:

WHY do I think I can still eat? Lol. I was hungry, so I decide to fix me a scrambled egg... And i made THREE eggs cause one looked so small and lonely in the pan. Haha! I've probably eaten less than one egg and I'm stuffed. I hope my eyes adjust to my band SOON! I'm tired of wasting food!

I know what you mean. I have taken to cooking with that tiny little skillet that always comes with a set. It had never been used before I had surgery!

I wish, wish, wish I could eat scrambled eggs! No matter how much I chew, no matter how small the bite, they always get stuck on the first bite. And I LOVE scrambled eggs. Fried go down fine. ;)

WOW. Thanks Stephanie and Suzzzie for the info. According to that I should be getting 85 grams per day, but my nutritionist only told me to get a minimum of 60 per day. I wonder why there is such a difference.

I guess I will probably try to boost my Protein intake.

stef you make me laugh!! You will join me anytime, as hard as you work at it!!

suzzzie you too, love the little figure shaking there!! every 5 to 10 lb loss is another step to a milestone!! You will be there soon. Two terville!! LOL

thanks toni, love seeing you post..

I have a question regarding steak. I ate it a few weeks ago and it went down. But my fear is when it does go down in the lower bigger stomach, does it digest the same as prior to the band? I know steak takes a long time to digest. what do you all think? Before i get your message, I would have had it if I decided to?? I also think, like you Stef, sometimes that extra Protein gives you a boost!

I think when I hit Two-terville I will be in shock and probably cry! I was 300+ when I got married 6 yrs ago and when I started my pre-op diet I was 386!! I can't wait for my husband to see the THIN me!! My little boy who is almost 5 keeps saying "momma you gettin skinny" and gives me thumbs up!! He is all about wanting to be healthy!! GO FIGURE!! What 5 yr old before eating something asks if it's junk food or is it good food?? I'm so proud of him! Now if my hubby was so easy to "convert" LOL Oh well he and I have 30+ yrs of bad habits to break! We're making it though slowly but surely!

I totally miss binge eating. Please tell me I"m not the only one that wishes I could get a total unfill for just a few days so I could EAT again? haha.

You are NOT the only one. I think about that way more than I would like. Even going so far as to think -when I get to goal, maybe I can relax and eat again! YIKES certainly not the right frame of mind for maintenance! Thank goodness for my band and great restriction or I would definitely be back off the wagon again.

I finally hit 70lbs down today! I know I said I wasn't going to weigh until next week, but I couldn't stand it, I had to see what my TOM was doing to me. I got a very pleasant surprise that I was down another pound! If I can lose weight now, I know my band is working!

Java - congrats on ONEderland!:whoo::whoo:

GO CHIEFS! they pulled another one out today!

Well I went vacation clothes shopping today. I saw so many cute things, but refrained from buying anything for myself just yet. Vacation is five weeks away and I have hopes of being at least more one size down by then. I'm really starting to get excited about the trip!

I did get a lot for hubby, though. He is just about finished except for one more dress shirt and some t-shirts. I have the hardest time finding t-shirts in "long". He is too tall to wear regular t-shirts and have them stay tucked under his shirts.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where to find them? ;)

I hear ya Holli!! I started this journey at 382. I've been over 300 since my Junior year of high school... I was over 200 when I was about 11 or 12 years old... So I absolutly have NO idea what it would be like to be thin!! I have no clue what I'll look like! A part of me can't even wrap my mind around it. It seems like something that will never happen. Every time I get on the scale and am down another pound I get so excited. Right now I'm weighing in at around 337 (was 333 the other day, but I fluctuate alot during the week) and I haven't been this low weight-wise in about 3 years. Everything is just insanely exciting for me.

What is up with that..I have hired a trainer and we meet a my gym three mornings a week I started out at 225 on June 20th and here it is Oct.1 and I've only lost 20ish pounds. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG???? I can feel restriction. I do get things stuck anend up slimbing, but I have never PBed . I can eat most things still with some stickage.

Here's the question....should I get another fill on Tuesday Oct.2nd.

Any and all opinions are welcome. Are there any othe non /slow losers here? What to have a Party???? I'll bring the food ;))

I and hear ya Holli and Suz. I'm also a heavy-weight and have been since I was a young'un. One time I starved myself down to 200 and it was great for the week it lasted ;-) Every tiny bit of weight lost is such a blessing and I'm so glad I found my way to the band. I can tell I'm going to succeed too. I am started to make so many plans that I never dared dream about before. I have many issues I need to address but it is so refreshing to address them while I'm losing weight rather than while I'm gaining.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
