Episodic pain....gas?

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I'm 6 weeks out and this afternoon evening for the first time I'm having some episodic pain. I'm wondering if it's gas? I tried something new at lunch this afternoon. I just chewed a gas x. I'm afraid to eat anything else. I'm drinking and that seems to maybe add a little more discomfort than usual but now I'm being super sensitive to how everything feels. What does it feel like if you don't chew something well enough and it gets stuck? I'm just trying to cover all my bases. The pain comes in waves that only last a few seconds and they are right where my stomach is and across both ways a little ways. Maybe I found something I can't tolerate? Suggestions?

6 weeks is too early to try new foods I feel. i am sure the pain will reduce.the food you ate must be difficult for the new stomach to digest.

all the best.take care.

I have been upgraded to regular food from soft food which was pretty much still almost purée consistency for me other than scrambled eggs because I was afraid.....so pretty much everything is new....at least texture wise. Thanks for your well wishes

What did you eat? I have learned what gas feels like for me because I recognize it from when I was a huge diet coke drinker, lol. It happened after I drank something carbonated, so now I know what it is. Whan I get something stuck it just feels like a lump in my throat, but that goes away fast. I haven't really gotten any stomach pains besides gas so I'm not too much help. I hope you find the answer though!

Mollz, I am concentrating on getting 80 grams of Protein and am trying to get as much through real food as possible which means my meat consumption has increased. I ate some beef for lunch ( I usually eat fish and chicken) and it was seasoned with Mexican seasoning.

Hmm... was the seasoning really spicy? Some people don't tolerate spicy food. Or maybe it was just the beef you didn't like. <_< I like to try to go for ground turkey instead, that's just a personal preference. My NUT said the leaner the better, which makes sense. Plus, I don't know about you, but here beef is EXPENSIVE! Damn!

Yeah.....won't be trying it again soon, that's for sure. At this point my stomach may hurt simply because I haven't eaten in the last 8 hours lol

So.......a half an hour ago I ate a scrambled egg. No pain since I ate. Hunger pangs??!! I'm such a dork.......

Seems a couple hours later they started back up. Seems it only happens when my sleeve is empty? Anyone else experience this?

I've been pretty pain-free since surgery. Recently, at 4 1/2 months out and with no food restrictions, I began having pain. Sometimes acidic, concentrated in my stomach initially, but eventually moved mainly to the left side. I had pain all the way down my left flank from my ribs into my hip. I was also significantly, visibly bloated (though my clothing size didn't change.). After a convo with my surgeon's nurse, I added back some Gas-X chewables (as needed) and the daily Protonix I'd been taken off of. Perhaps excess acid or a gastritis flare-up? I'm also more closely watching for symptoms as they relate to the types of food I take in. Periodically, post-WLS folks develop a sensitivity to lactose, and things like whey Protein Shakes can be difficult to manage. I still have 1-2 Protein shakes per day (in addition to real food), but I didn't have any yesterday or today, and I feel less bloated and gassy. All of that to say, I'm not exactly sure what you're issue is, but excess acid and food sensitivities can lead to discomfort.

Hi Sophie, do you still have your gallbladder? Could be gallstones. Talk to your doctor about that possibility ok?

Thanks everyone, it has gotten better so I'm very thankful. I am going to pay attention to what I eat prior to it flaring up in the future. I'm happy to avoid whatever it is! And no, no gall bladder on board!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
