Sick and Liver Shirking Diet

Recommended Posts

So I am almost into my second week of the liver shirking diet. I have felt vary nausea today and last night. It's common with me and I normally have a some type of bread (pita or toast) with butter or peppermint candy to help settle my tummy down. But on the liver shrinking diet there is no bread allowed (or candy for that matter). What are some other things I can try.

We all get different marching papers from our own docs. There is no normal or standard pre-op diet.

What was yours, maybe we can help?

One thing that has helped me is Peppermint Tea. That is very settling to my tummy. I sometimes put a bit of vanilla almond milk in it with some splenda.

Also you could try some flatbread crackers, which are usually very low carb. Just one with your tea maybe.

ginger tea or ginger ale. since you are pre surgery a diet ginger ale might be helpful. but I really like the ginger tea as well. if you are way nauseated tell your doctor he might prescribe something for it.

I love ginger tea -- we drink it hot or as an iced tea. When people come over they go nuts for it! Wondering if you could be experiencing dairy intolerance or something else not agreeing with you in the shake you're using. Can you check in with the doctor/nutritionist -- that's what they are there for and they want you to feel well. Congratulations on your upcoming surgery!

Unfortunately this is very common. You're body is in shock from the sudden change, detoxing all of those bad things out of your system. My pre-op was a little different, I was drinking a shake for Breakfast with fruit for a snack a shake for lunch and then a fruit for a snack and then a weight watchers meal. My biggest complaint was that I was soooo tired. Just remember it's only for a short amount of time, you will get through it! Just think of all of the wonderful things that will come after this is all said and done. :-) Best of luck!

This is another vote for ginger tea. I used it to settle my stomach even before the pre op diet. If mints work for you, try sugar free mints. There is also a peppermint tea that works well for digestion. I had to do the Adkins diet with all Protein to shrink my liver as well, drank plenty of ginger tea.

Thanks guys I think it must be a sinus infection because I (and my 22 month old) ran fevers last night. Today I have had a sinus pressure headache all day with no relief. I have been drinking ginger tea like its going out of style and it has helped settle my tummy. It will be my new friend, now how to get rid of this sinus pressure headache :(

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
