Cigna OAP require 3 or 6 month for approval

Does anyone know if Cigna requires 3 or 6 months of diet before approving? My insurance says 3 months, but my doctors say 6 months?? So, so confused!

When I got home today, I found my letter in the mailbox! I am approved and Cigna only took a week from the date the dr. turned in the paperwork. Date is set for next week, June 5

Whoo hoo congrats and good luck on your upcoming journey

I have CIgna and they require 3 months

I have CIGNA and their requirements are vague and may be interpreted different ways. My surgeons office first interpreted as 3 months of nut but ended up being 4 months. A while back they did require 6 months of nut diet. You can review their policies at: https://cignaforhcp.cigna.com/public/content/pdf/coveragePolicies/medical/mm_0051_coveragepositioncriteria_bariatric_surgery.pdf

Now I am freaking out a bit...my file is in reconsideration at Cigna because of the 3 month diet and 2nd physician clearance....my surgeon thought they didn't see the documents now I'm concerned about the time periods. I have a signed release from my pcp and can get a care summery recommending surgery, but my 3 month diet was February 2nd, March 2nd and April 1st....surgery scheduled for April 22nd. If I am understanding this document correctly, I don't have enough diet days.

Crap Crap Crap!!!

. Hi, I was wondering how did it go with you 3 visits, did you have to do one more to complete the 89 days? I have my last visit on August 4th which is number 4, however they do not equal to 89days.

They spoke with my PA and accepted my PCP clearance letter (which was written, signed and dated a month prior to my first class) as acceptable for the additional days needed for 89.... I was approved and Surgery proceeded as scheduled....no issues with payment.

Talk to your surgical team and let them know your concern about the minimum days now and see what kind if magic they can create!

Best of luck!

I don't understand why we would have to go through it all for revision surgery. We all went through it the first time.....

I do have Cigna also and I have to go thru 6 months of supervised weight loss. I am doing 7 visits the first being may 9, and the last one being in November, and then if my nerves don't get the best of me , I will have surgery sometime after that.

Do we really need to go through all that again if we already were banded and want the revision??? I haven't contacted Cigna yet because my surgeon is having me go through the Barium Swallow test first to see what's causing the pain I'm expreriencing. Then we are going to submit the paperwork. I don't want to wait 3 - 6 months - I just want to get the revision done.
