Protein Shakes Problem! help!

Recommended Posts

just started my Pre-op but for the last couple of weeks my body has been rejecting food. whenever i eat i immedietly run to the bathroom within 20 mins or feel so nauseous. Now im drinking the shhakes and its happening again. I dont mind the Bariatric Advantage with milk its ok but it is a bit thick. any other ideas ways to consume the powder without going off diet? i thought maybe pour it into popsicle molds or put the powder into the yogurt or freeze it like ice cream and try it with a spoon... ANY IDEAS?? or ways to make it easier??? i need to do my pre-op for 10 days then 2 days all Clear liquids. surgery date is the 21st of april!

help!!

@@Erin414 - How do you mix the powder? In a Blender Bottle or in a blender? I found using a blender the shakes are much better and lighter since they are aerated. You can try throwing in a ice cube or 2 to make it more like a milk shake. If its too thick - add a little more milk or Water to thin it out.

Hope you find something that works for you. If you still have a trouble with those shakes ask your doctor if you can try a different one.

Wishing you the best!!

What are you allowed on your pre-op? I don't know about freezing it. I just like to chug it down and get it done with. lol. Some people use almond milk and tend to really like it. Or you can try vanilla/chocolate soy milk? (Just watch the sugar content - they do make light versions). Can you have Decaf coffee? Try adding cold coffee to the Protein powder and add a couple ice cubes when you blend it -make yourself a little frappuchino! :) Some folks in my support group suggested that to me too.

Oh and I've heard the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken broth is pretty good - i haven't tried it so I can't give any personal reviews. But that is also a good source of protein!

by adding ice, you make it thicker and can probably use a spoon, you can probably use Torani sugar free syrups to make them more enjoyable as well...and don't forget about free (insurance covered) Protein etc by filling out the form at InsureNutrition.com ...

Good luck to you... you will find the right mix for yourself...just keep at it :)

I couldn't do Bariatric Advantage. The texture, the taste. Ugh. Then I'd have diarrhea all day. I think we all react to different ones in a different way.

I liked premier before surgery. After surgery they tasted so gross to me. It's hard to explain.

I have two cases of premiere Protein that I've been working in for six weeks. I know exactly what you mean with them. I really like the Jay Robb shakes, they're really thin and light tasting and they have a citrus/tropical one that's good:-)

Just made my first shake, not too bad! My surgeon uses Champion Nutrition's Ultramet, I used 12 ounces cold Water, 1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract, 1/4 teaspoon sugarftee raspberry hello, and a few ice cubes in my nutribullet. It is light and thick, you could definitely spoon it if need be. I got the recipe from a book I down loaded on my kindle called, Chef Dave recipes for weight loss success. It was recommended by my nutritionist. Has recipes for shakes all the way through soft foods. They sound so good, I'm looking forward to trying them. Hope this helps, hang in there!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
