4 Weeks out - Confused - What should I be eating?

Recommended Posts

Do I still drink the Protein drinks? Do I chop up my food? What is a basic menu, Protein, veggie and fruit? ?? Can I put relish in my tuna? I am not good at putting menus together so I tend to eat the same thing over and over. Still eating just Soup, yogurt, applesauce and Protein Drink. How do you get all of that protein in in a day???Help.

What stage are you on at the moment? I'll be 4 weeks on Wednesday and I'm on soft foods. I have been told "anything I can cut with a fork." I still have to have at least one Protein drink a day or I don't hit my Protein goals. I eat protein almost exclusively, with the exception of some overcooked veggies. I typically have a mini-fritatta for Breakfast (eggs, turkey sausage and spinach are what I have right now), some tuna fish, or an oz or so sliced deli turkey with a piece of laughing cow cheese, or a veggie fritter with Greek yogurt for lunch, and then some fish or meatloaf or a meatball with ricotta cheese and sauce for dinner. If I want a snack I eat yogurt or cottage cheese but that's pretty rare. I fit in a Protein shake between Breakfast and lunch, typically. I do eat the same things over and over a lot, just because my portions are TINY and so I have to save food. I freeze a lot so that I can kind of mix it up as I go.

Are you on My Fitness Pal? Somewhere on these forums there is a post with a lot of users MFP names, so you can add them as friends and view their daily food diaries. I love MFP because it makes it easy to see if I'm getting my protein which is still a struggle!

Hi,

I am in my 4th week after surgery, and I don't lack energy or anything.. but I am struggling to keep up with my Proteins. I can barely eat a scramble egg for breakfast. At lunch, I will have some sou or creamed spinach.. dinner time is a Soup or apple sauce... I am struggling to eat and keep track of my Proteins. Any suggestions, will be welcomed. I have tried a few Protein drink and so far I think I am able to tolerate the Premier Protein.

Do you have a nutritionist to help you? They should not be leaving you high and dry at this early stage!

I am right there with you. I tried over 30 min to eat a scrambled egg and actually got sick.

It worries me being this far out (I was sleeved 3/10) and not knowing what to eat. And not getting my Protein in. I am tired of the same stuff and the Protein shakes.

I welcome suggestions too.

I am 4 weeks and 4 days post op. Right now my NUT put me on stage 4. I have a long commute in the morning which starts at 5 am. That is when I drink my unjury Protein drink. I usually drink chocolate and add 2 tbsp of Decaf instant coffee.(20 g Protein + 8 oz fluid).Tastes like a mocha. Then breakfast about 1.5 to 2 hrs later. This is usually light and fit Greek yogurt or cottage cheese. (12 g protein).

Between breakfast and lunch I sip on crystal light or decaf herbal tea.

Then lunch is usually 1/3 c tuna which I dressed up with fat free mayo and brown mustard. If I can I try to eat a few bites of peeled apples or applesauce. Sometimes instead of tuna I eat chili with Beans or cottage cheese with a couple slices of canned peaches or pears. No sugar added. (About 12 g protein) After 30 minutes I start my sipping again. I start off in the morning with a 33.9 oz cup. My

goal is to to finish it by evening.

Mid afternoon about 2 hrs before dinner. I have another Unjury protein shake. (20 g protein + 8 oz fluids)

dinner is about 2 oz of lean meat ...shredded chicken or beef or baked fish. A couple tbsp of pureed veggies or mashed sweet potato. (About 10 g protein). Then I start my 2nd Fluid goal of another 20 oz between dinner and bedtime. (4 hrs time)

So total about 75 g of protein and

69 oz of fluids.

Veteran sleevers... is this good advice? ?

Hi All about me, your food diary sounds good to me. I am five weeks out & afraid to eat as some friends of mine have been throwing up & I will do anything to avoid throwing up. My diet is so boring, I have Dannon Light & Fit Greek yogurt every morning, poached egg for lunch on 1/2 of a toasted whole wheat bagel thin. One day I added thin Deli turkey meat & laughing Cow cheese but I gained weight so I just do the egg & bagel thin. Then I have a Protein Shake for dinner. Last night we went out to dinner with my cousin to Celebrate my birthday. I had meatloaf, mashed potatoes & broccoli which was my first time eating more than just one thing. Of course I took more than half of it home in a to go box but this morning I was up 1.8 pounds so now I am afraid to eat again. I have lost 29 pounds since 2/11 when I started the pre-op diet.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
