Burning pain in middle esophagus, your feedback please.

Hello there,

I'm day 6 post-op. When I lie flat, a strong, burning sensation comes on in the middle of my esophagus. Anyone, given anything for this?

At discharge I was given Milk of Magnesia, and told to take it for an the anti-inflammatory properties. However, side effects of MOM is diarrhea which I still have.

SO, anyone out there that experienced this same symptom, and what did you take for it? I don't have an MD back here in the States, following me.

I was given prevacid to take for 3 months to avoid any kind of reflux. The med is a capsule that I have to take apart and then just swallow the crystal inside. I did have to have a hiatal hernia repaired, that's probably why its for 3 months. Maybe call your surgeon, tell them about the diarrhea and see if they can give you something else?

Milk of magnesia is a laxative. Don't take it every day! You could have an ulcer I would get to a local doctor

Sounds like you have reflux. They have over the counter Prevacid. I would start taking that, but also find a local doctor to see. There are labs that you should have done on a regular basis, things like B12 shots that you need. I had a prescription for Protonix daily for the first 6 months, and now just use it occasionally. Good luck!
