Hey all

I just found out I was approved, no additional requirements, no additional conditions - done.

My doc just became in-network with Pacificare PPO and all this is going to cost me $4000.

Surgery is scheduled for Jan 10th and I'm sitting here in shock! Could this really happen? I can't remember what my life was like before, I have no idea what it will be like to be "normal"

WOW!

Hey Sweet - Thanks so much - still scary to think of jumping off without a guarantee but that's what life is about huh! You know last night I was thinking, maybe I should try and lose without the band, maybe I should give it another go....I got up this morning and was like "what was I thinking" that's the whole point I haven't been able to do it on my own for 10 years.....this time would not have been any different.

So, all is good in my neighborhood! :-)

Hi Colorado Bandsters!

Jsoto, Jtag and Plentsweet - welcome to our lap-band world. When I finally made the decision to go ahead with the lap-band I talked and met with several people who had it done (including Connie from this thread). They all told me it was definately something the would do over again. I have to agree this is one of the better decisions I have ever made. I feel and look so much better already and I am only a little over 3 months out.

Staceylca- I am not sure where Whitewater is. I would highly recommend Dr. James Smith here in Pueblo. BTW - Welcome to Colorado.

bGrand - Hang in there girl. Keep working with your Doctor until you find your "sweet spot". It will happen if you don't give up.

Trish and Connie - how are you girls doing? I haven't heard from you all in quite a while. Connie how about lunch next week or the week after? Trish - let us know when you come up again and we'll get together.

About me - I had my hysterectomy on Sept 10 and am feeling great. I am ready to start exercising again, but other than walking I can't do much for four more weeks.

I went shopping yesterday - I am in an 18/20 for the first time in years! Yahoo!!!!

Ya'll hang in there! Keep lifting each other up!

Michelle

I am so looking forward to size 16. I haven't been there since 1994. I have a family wedding to attend on December 8th and I would sure like to show up and surprise everyone.

BTW - I read your blog. Very good! I keep thinking I would like to do one, but I don't know if 1) anyone would care to read the thing and 2) if I have enough of a life to warrant one. haha

Dakota - Thanks, none of my family and friends know that it's out there, just here....it's the only way I've been able to "dump" everything that's going on in my little head as to not let out to everyone what has consumed all my time and energy and money this summer. Plus, knowning that this is going to be life altering journey- it will be a good memory of where I've come from...pics are next and food journal....ohhh scarry!

Oh yeah and the last time I was --> over there, was 1998??? Can't even remember it, took it for granted!

Hey, fellow Coloradans. I live on the western slope. Planning to go to Denver possibly for a patient seminar. I'm still doing my research as to if I want to take the Lap Band journey. But I am pretty positive it is the road for me.

I was wondering how many of you had been to a patient seminar before scheduling? Is it important? I've read the good, the bad, the ugly, so it's not like I have rose-colored glasses on. I'd just much rather just schedule for a consult and the surgery and get moving.

Has anybody heard much about Dr Thomas Brown in Denver at the Colorado Bariatric Surgery Institute? That is who I'm looking at. I will also consider a doctor that is located in Grand Junction, but I liked the fact that it said on Lap Band's website something about Dr Brown having done over 100 in the last year, or something.

Also - for fills/unfills, do I HAVE to go back to Dr Brown? 2.5 hours to drive each time is kind of a strain.

I'm happy to see such an active Colorado group! Look forward to hearing from some of you.

Hey Steph_cn

I went to 2 patient seminars with 2 different surgeons...I got no new information from the 1st one, everything I had already read online, but found out I didn't really like the surgeon. The 2nd one was wonderful with new information, liked the surgeon and the program and I knew after the seminar I was getting it done with him.

The presentation that he did, however, was sent out on a CD with my new patient packet. So I could have heard the whole presentation in the comfort of my house :-)

So, no, I didn't feel the seminar was a must have, they can probably provide you a copy of the info, it did however help me eliminate without paying the consult fee...but meeting the surgeon was the most important to me! I wasn't really considering IF I should have it done, it was how, and when, and with who....hope that helps!

Hi there! Well, here I am 7 weeks post-op. I am down 25 pounds, so not as fast as some, but Im happy. Anyway, question for you all...

I have a sharp "side-ache" or "stitch" kind of pain in my fasr left side. Its nowhere near the port. Its lower than a normal side-ache,...kind of right below my waist line. I don't know if it is related to the band or not, but thought Id ask if anyone has had this. Last night, it was so bad I could hardly walk. I took some Advil, and it was fine. But this morning, its back, and very painful.

Let me know if anyone has had this!

Thanks!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
