Connie - What fun to run into you last night. My daughter got paid yesterday and wanted to go out to eat. I am actually looking forward to not being able to just pack away that much food. After I had lunch with you last week I had an appointment with my Ob/Gyn and found out that I get to have a hysterectomy (probably in Aug/Sept). I told her I was planning to have the Lap-Band surgery and she was all for it. Told me the more weight I lost the easier my recovery time from her surgery would be. She was so cool - even sent over all my blood work to Dr. Smith to help save some money.

I heard from Parkwest and the anestisiologist yesterday. They want their money.........

Counting down the days - two weeks from tomorrow!!!!! Have a great day everyone.

Michelle--it was nice to meet your daughter--she must be a little wary of new people, huh? Yeah, they won't do anything at Parkwest until they get their money. I still have issues with them! I'm so excited for you! If you need anything, just let me know. Stock up on broth and Jello before your surgery! Talk to you soon.

Hey Trish--long time no talk! How have you been? We were supposed to go to Albuquerque this weekend, but my friend that we were going to see ended up having to go to Arizona, so we didn't go. Bummer--maybe we could have gotten together. Have you been able to get up here for a fill yet? I am needing one, but have to wait until the 11th of June. Which sucks cuz it seems like I could eat a horse these days. Glad to have you back!

sunny112 - welcome to this site! Glad to hear everything is going well for you. You are close to my age, there is a site called "How is weight loss for 50 and older?" that I have found really supportive and helpful too.

Best wishes on your continued success.

:)DynamoMini.....I would love to check out the website for weight loss after 50. How do I get to it?

I just went for my 1 week post op visit today & I'm down 7 lbs! I'm so thrilled!. I know it will slow down but it's sure nice to get this little jump start.

Looks like you're losing REALLY well! How was the first fill? Did you have any problems? Does it feel alot different after the fill?

As you can tell, I'm really excited about this and really appreciate all the advice I can get!

Keep up the good work!:clap2:

Sunny112 - Here is the other thread site:

http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/how-weight-loss-people-over-50-a-21117-new/

You are doing really well! I didn't lose as fast after I went back to real food. My first fill was pretty minimal. I'm not sure how much it helped and I probably need another one. I was so nervous that I think my throat closed when the doc was asking, is this right? I will get a more aggressive fill next time. I have had a few PB and some slime when I eat too fast or don't chew enough. So I am really new at this too. We'll all learn together.

Connie ~ Oh that would of been great if you were out here. I have not gotten a fill since Nov.... I think..... I am planning to be out there in July, hubby and I are going to make a Vaction out of it so we will be there a few days. I will let you know when for sure I would love to get together.

So as you knoticed I have not been on LBT in so long, but I think I need the support again, I have lost all hope in my band life... and I want to get back in. I am not ready to hit the big boards so I will hang out in here for a bit... hope you all dont mind a New Mexican joining you all!

Thanks Connie. I really do hope a fill will help me out, I have only had 2 fills (in one weekend of course) with my new band so that might be it. I had not been able to get out to CO any sooner because AOL closed down so my husband had to find another job, well with that was not the best hours or days off... So I am thinking it will be a nice trip in July, and they said if I call early enough they can get me in on almost any day it doesnt have to be Monday. So that is good.

I have only lost 70 pounds which I am very disapointed, but I have not gained any even though I am eatting tons of food.. LOL so I guess thats good.

Well I hope you all CO's are having a good day!

Trish--70 pounds is a great start, and i am sure that a good fill will kick-start your weight loss again. Be sure and let me know when you are coming. Now, to all my other CO buddies--it looks like I will be making another trip to Denver next weekend--the 15-16-17th, so maybe we could get together then? How does that work for all of you?

Hi all,

I'm Tina and I am from Longmont, Colorado. I just scheduled my lapband for August 9th (wanted to go sooner, but I have some travel and visitors in June and July...). I am excited about the whole concept. This is my 45th ( ;)) birthday present to myself. I'm mom to a recently-turned 2 year old with another baby coming this fall (adoption)... so I think I'll be needing some more energy and also, I need to make sure I am going to be around to see a grandchild or two. :)

I'm having my surgery done by Dr. K in Aurora. I'll be a self-pay and will try (I hear they've never paid for one yet) to get Anthem BC/BS to reimburse...

Anyhow, I've read the entire thread and think it's a great group! Your comments make me feel much better about my decision and make me feel like being more "normal-sized' and fitter is a real possibility.

Tina

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
